The Little Rock Folk Club Inc fosters a vibrant folk music community, promoting traditional and contemporary music through concerts and events, while celebrating the cultural heritage of folk music in Arkansas and beyond.

They&#39;re back! Still on the Hill is a national and international touring group from Arkansas that has been described as &ldquo;Ambassadors of the Ozarks&rdquo; for the work they do to preserve a rich culture that is quickly disappearing.Kelly &amp; Donna of Still on the Hill are award winning &lsquo;story telling-song writers&rsquo;. &nbsp;Different than most singer-songwriters, this dynamic duo embellishes their songs with a host of unique instruments from the hills they call home. Many of these were hand-made by old-timers and have amazing stories that go with them. &nbsp;Their &#39;low tech&#39; Power Point has become a trademark of shows. &nbsp;Every song has a photo quilt to go with it. &nbsp;A picture is worth a 1,000 words. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Still on the Hill has proved itself a favorite at many prestigious festivals and venues here and abroad, including the Kerrville Folk Festival, Philadelphia Folk Festival, The Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival in Winfield, Kansas and countless others. Their own region has placed them the HALL OF FAME for the &ldquo;Best Folk Band&rdquo; in the Ozarks and the mayor of their town, Fayetteville, Arkansas, proclaimed Dec. 20th Still on the Hill Day for all the work the duo does in community service. They have produced eleven widely acclaimed CD&#39;s and nine years ago they signed with Swiss record label Brambus Records for the European release of their CD &ldquo;Chaos &amp; Calm&rdquo;. &nbsp;In 2010 they produced their &#39;Ozark Project&#39; which created waves across the region that are still resonating today and also garnered them the coveted Governors Folk Life Award for their effort to preserve Arkansas Traditions.In 2015 they completed ONCE A RIVER, a year-long journey to write and record songs about the history of the Beaver Lake Watershed and the White River to promote good stewardship of this precious resource. In 2016 they created and completed a project using the same template as ONCE A RIVER, but this time it was about the Buffalo River, our nation&rsquo;s FIRST historic river. &nbsp;This CD and program was dubbed STILL A RIVER. &nbsp;After completing the year-long journey the National Park Service granted the duo 10 more programs to be performed in other regions of the state.Now Still on the Hill is creating their 4th Ozark based project all about the historic town of CANE HILL. They will unveil this series in October of 2018. Join us for an evening with Lance Cowan 🎵 The Little Rock Folk Club proudly welcomes a storyteller of song whose work echoes the roots and branches of folk music. This event brings our community together around the tunes, tales, and traditions we&rsquo;re dedicated to preserving. &ldquo;Echoes of Steve Goodman and Michael Martin Murphey, among others, surface in his literate, intimately detailed perspective, but mostly you&rsquo;ll hear the elevated song-craft common to the best of the New Traditionalist movement of yore set in a soothing string- rich soundscape defined by acoustic guitars, mandolin, pedal steel and fiddle, all pristine as fresh waters. Cowan&rsquo;s clear, appealing tenor is the voice of a close friend. Acclaimed by the Boston Globe as &quot;the finest folk ballad singer America has produced since Joan Baez,&quot; Connie Dover is a singer, poet and Emmy Award-winning producer and composer. Her soaring, crystal-clear voice and inspired arrangements of the music of Scotland, Ireland and early America display a depth and breadth of range that have established her as one of the world&#39;s pre-eminent traditional singers. Connie was born in Arkansas and raised in Missouri. She studied at Oxford University and she has researched music from Edinburgh, Scotland, to Miles City, Montana. &nbsp; It was around Wyoming campfires, trading songs with old-time cowboys, where Connie discovered that the ancient ballads she learned in Scotland were still being sung on cattle trails in the Rocky Mountains. Nature is a constant theme in Connie&#39;s music. Her enchantment with the enduring quality of traditional songs and her exploration of the interplay of Celtic and American music inspire her creative work. Her instinct for capturing the emotional core of each song and her love for the high plains and mountains of the American West paint the broad landscape of her music. She spends a portion of her summers cooking on a ranch in northwest Wyoming, and part of the winter months cooking at a remote hunting camp in northern Montana. &nbsp; &nbsp;Please join us for an evening of beautiful traditional, contemporary and original songs... and hear about her Arkansas connection!
