ward-winning musician/writer and fan favorite (over 40 million views on her YouTube videos), Mean Mary literally grew up in music. She evolved from a child prodigy who played for tips on the streets of Nashville (“startling talent,” said The Tennessean) to a seasoned performer and headliner of over 4,000 festivals and concerts (“the voice of a ragged angel combined with the banjo playing of the devil,” says No Depression). Her latest album, Woman Creature (Portrait of a Woman, Part 2), was named Country Music People's #1 Critics' Choice Album of 2024, and her recording of "Wayfaring Stranger" was recently featured in the feature film Hellfire starring Stephen Lang, Dolph Lundgren, and Harvey Keitel. Deering Banjos named her their Goodtime Ambassador, and Janet Deering describes her banjo playing as giving her “chills.” Equally versatile on guitar, fiddle, and eight other instruments, Mary is known internationally for her lightning-fast fingers, haunting vocals, and intricate story songs. As a high-energy performer who thrives on variety—and a songwriter who chooses unusual subject matter—anything from ghost pirates to demon guitars could romp through a Mean Mary show “Mean Mary James is an extraordinarily talented multi-instrumentalist perhaps best known for her lightning fast banjo, but also masterful on fiddle and guitar.” -No Depression Please join us for an evening of blistering multi-instrumental picking and frailing, hilarious family stories from a fascinating peripatetic childhood with music and prodigiousness at its heart Need a little more convincing?... trust your own ears here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izZJOeF3xfM&list=RDizZJOeF3xfM&start_radio=1 Admission: Adults $20 - Military/Services $15 - Students w. They're back! Still on the Hill is a national and international touring group from Arkansas that has been described as “Ambassadors of the Ozarks” for the work they do to preserve a rich culture that is quickly disappearing.Kelly & Donna of Still on the Hill are award winning ‘story telling-song writers’. Different than most singer-songwriters, this dynamic duo embellishes their songs with a host of unique instruments from the hills they call home. Many of these were hand-made by old-timers and have amazing stories that go with them. Their 'low tech' Power Point has become a trademark of shows. Every song has a photo quilt to go with it. A picture is worth a 1,000 words. Still on the Hill has proved itself a favorite at many prestigious festivals and venues here and abroad, including the Kerrville Folk Festival, Philadelphia Folk Festival, The Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival in Winfield, Kansas and countless others. Their own region has placed them the HALL OF FAME for the “Best Folk Band” in the Ozarks and the mayor of their town, Fayetteville, Arkansas, proclaimed Dec. 20th Still on the Hill Day for all the work the duo does in community service. They have produced eleven widely acclaimed CD's and nine years ago they signed with Swiss record label Brambus Records for the European release of their CD “Chaos & Calm”. In 2010 they produced their 'Ozark Project' which created waves across the region that are still resonating today and also garnered them the coveted Governors Folk Life Award for their effort to preserve Arkansas Traditions. In 2015 they completed ONCE A RIVER, a year-long journey to write and record songs about the history of the Beaver Lake Watershed and the White River to promote good stewardship of this precious resource. In 2016 they created and completed a project using the same template as ONCE A RIVER, but this time it was about the Buffalo River, our nation’s FIRST historic river. This CD and program was dubbed STILL A RIVER. After completing the year-long journey the National Park Service granted the duo 10 more programs to be performed in other regions of the state. Now Still on the Hill is creating their 4th Ozark based project all about the historic town of CANE HILL. They will unveil this series in October of 2018. Join us as the Little Rock Folk Club presents Still On The Hill in concert 🎵—an evening of vivid stories, acoustic instruments, and Ozark-inspired songs that honor folk traditions. Join us for an evening with Lance Cowan 🎵 The Little Rock Folk Club proudly welcomes a storyteller of song whose work echoes the roots and branches of folk music. This event brings our community together around the tunes, tales, and traditions we’re dedicated to preserving. “Echoes of Steve Goodman and Michael Martin Murphey, among others, surface in his literate, intimately detailed perspective, but mostly you’ll hear the elevated song-craft common to the best of the New Traditionalist movement of yore set in a soothing string- rich soundscape defined by acoustic guitars, mandolin, pedal steel and fiddle, all pristine as fresh waters. Cowan’s clear, appealing tenor is the voice of a close friend. It’ll hit you where you live.” – David McGee/The Absolute Sound “What is a stone cold surprise is just how great an artist he is. It’s a pretty good bet that no other publicist has ever had these kinds of songwriting and singing abilities, much less had it for the most part hidden away. Surely it’s one of the great surprises of living this life in music. Cowan’s songs have a super-deep resonance whether he’s writing about romance, people he’s met or just living the life that he does. It takes a special talent to work one side of the fence promoting so many great other singer-songwriters over the years and then switching hats and heading into the recording studio. What a wonder!” – Bill Bentley / Bentley’s Bandstand / Americana Highways “Of course, writing good songs puts one in a fairly exclusive group – but actually creating a distinctive voice, form and style is to ascend into rarified air. Lance Cowan has achieved a very distinctive style, warm and engaging, but most importantly, recognizable. Lance continues to make a significant contribution to songwriting, not just as a form of expression, but as creative art at the highest level.”– Pat Flynn / Musician, Artist, Producer Need a little more convincing?... trust your own ears here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqtSrK2eBtb-0BQ_R80sbow Admission: Adults $20 - Military/Services $15 - Students w. Within those songs and stories are echoes he hopes audiences will hear and realize that THEY are the summoned heroes. With the release of his 6th CD, Empire (March 1, 2026), he turns to the issues of justice, fury, and renewal in the face of 500 years of Empire in the US. "The evening’s act was Kray Van Kirk, whose 12-string guitar and soaring vocals were spellbinding. The dragons look different, the monsters wear suits, the quest hides behind the mundane and appears utterly futile, but the work is the same. Acclaimed by the Boston Globe as "the finest folk ballad singer America has produced since Joan Baez," Connie Dover is a singer, poet and Emmy Award-winning producer and composer. Her soaring, crystal-clear voice and inspired arrangements of the music of Scotland, Ireland and early America display a depth and breadth of range that have established her as one of the world's pre-eminent traditional singers. Connie was born in Arkansas and raised in Missouri. She studied at Oxford University and she has researched music from Edinburgh, Scotland, to Miles City, Montana. It was around Wyoming campfires, trading songs with old-time cowboys, where Connie discovered that the ancient ballads she learned in Scotland were still being sung on cattle trails in the Rocky Mountains. Nature is a constant theme in Connie's music. Her enchantment with the enduring quality of traditional songs and her exploration of the interplay of Celtic and American music inspire her creative work. Her instinct for capturing the emotional core of each song and her love for the high plains and mountains of the American West paint the broad landscape of her music. She spends a portion of her summers cooking on a ranch in northwest Wyoming, and part of the winter months cooking at a remote hunting camp in northern Montana. Please join us for an evening of beautiful traditional, contemporary and original songs... and hear about her Arkansas connection! Connie performs in concert, on radio and television around the world, and she has been a featured guest on NPR's Weekend Edition, A Prairie Home Companion, and the Thistle and Shamrock. She has released six critically-acclaimed solo albums, and her music can be heard on many soundtracks and recordings of folk and world music. She received 2007 Emmy Award for Musical Composition and Arrangement. She is a recipient of the Speakeasy Prize in Poetry and the Yellowstone and Teton Song Contest Grand Prize. She has also been inducted into the Missouri Music Hall of Fame.

Dirk and Amelia Powell are a father/daughter duo from Southwest Louisiana. Dirk is regarded as a champion of rural Americana, with a focus on his Appalachian heritage and his Cajun home. His emotional recordings have inspired a new generation of roots musicians and his original song “Waterbound” has been recorded over 100 times. Dirk has worked extensively with artists such as Joan Baez, Eric Clapton, Rhiannon Giddens, Levon Helm, and many more. Dirk’s daughter Amelia grew up in the bayous of Louisiana, immersed in the musical culture of her grandfather, Cajun fiddle hero Dewey Balfa. Her driving guitar and soulful vocals, as both a lead and harmony singer, have led to work in the studio, TV and film, and a wide array of performances around the globe. Together, they play music of their heritage, write and craft original songs, and bring audiences the kind of soulful connection that comes from family playing together with trust, humour, and love. “One of the most respected Americana-Folk musicians of his generation, with four Grammys to his name, and a decade as Joan Baez’s ‘band’, Dirk Powell has more laurels than you can shake a banjo at. He’s not resting on them, he’s building a legacy that takes the form of Amelia Powell, daughter, and granddaughter of legendary Louisiana fiddler Dewey Balfa. The younger Powell’s talents are immediately clear. She has just the right potent, soulful voice for the job, coupled to a burning passion for the music. Dirk’s instrumental skills and Amelia’s evocative voice made for a night of masterfully performed Cajun and Appalachian music hosted by two charming, and deeply likeable human beings.” The Quintessential Review Please join us for an exquisite evening of poly-cultural-influenced songs and tunes performed by 2 masters with deep roots in Appalachian and Cajun music and contemporary Americana.
