Mascall Dance Society

Mascall Dance Society fosters artistic exploration through somatic practices, emphasizing bodily awareness and intentional movement. They create immersive experiences that prioritize reflection and community learning over performance, nurturing creativity in dance.

Somatic Camp 2026 takes place from 10am to 1 pm,&nbsp;every day&nbsp;from Feb 2&nbsp;to Feb 7. &nbsp; 6 days of workshops&nbsp;1 class per day&nbsp;3 hours for each class Led byJennifer MascallAlexa Solveig Mardon&nbsp;Francesca Frewer&nbsp; Somatic camp is an immersive gathering to explore movement through bodily awareness rather than performance. It focuses on slow attentive practices, reflection, and shared inquiry, creating space for participants to listen to their bodies, move with intention, and learn together without the pressure of producing a finished work.&nbsp; Jennifer Mascall&nbsp;is a Canadian choreographer, teacher, improviser, and advocate for the art form who encourages generations of artists through movement research, collaboration, creation, chorewographic residencies, intensives and dialogue. Her approach is informed by studies with two American master teachers, Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, and Linda Putnam. &nbsp;&nbsp;Alexa Solveig Mardon&nbsp;is an artist co-creating and seeking spaces for imperfect ritual, queer fantastical myth-making, and multi-sensorial solidarity across difference. Alexa&rsquo;s work takes many forms including stage performance, poetry, biodynamic craniosacral therapy, movement classes for frontline support workers with Rianne Svelnis, and dreamwork + divination practices. As a queer settler artist living in collapse times, Alexa&rsquo;s work and life are invested in the creation and sustenance of webs of support, enoughness and transformation with collaborators, community and more than human entities. Alexa&#39;s teaching centres dance class as a site for practicing whole body awareness, shared rhythm and contact nutrition, and increasing self-efficacy through playful, imaginative embodiments.&nbsp; Francesca Frewer&nbsp;is a contemporary dance artist and Feldenkrais&reg; practitioner living as a grateful guest on the unceded, ancestral territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations.
