We look to create spaces of exploration and discovery driven by a shared passion for performance. Our hope is that by providing opportunities for anyone that we will create a community for everyone.

Oct 21 - Audition Essentials for Theatre with Heidi Hawkins

Playwriting Fundamentals is all about getting back to basics. Open to writers of all levels, this class invites you to revisit the core elements of playwriting: character, dialogue, plot, conflict, theme, and world-building. We will look at different ways of developing each of these elements in a play, as well as techniques for getting past writing obstacles. The goal of the class is to offer writers as many tools and techniques as possible to help guide themselves through the playwriting process. You are welcome to attend with just an idea for a play, or with a script in early stages of development. LOCATION STUDIO ED 423-5445 av. de Gaspe, Montreal, QC H2T 3B2 THE SPACE Studio ED is a 1,700 sq ft studio with a 920 sq ft sprung marley-type dance floor, and it&#39;s wheelchair accessible. Please note the floor is quite soft and is not suitable for street shoes &mdash; bring clean soft-soled shoes or socks. Oct 7 - Playwrighting with Bevin Dooley

What exactly does a director do? In this workshop, I will share various techniques, tools, and beliefs on how to approach directing. We will discuss the director&rsquo;s role throughout the process including developing a concept, collaborating with designers, preparing for rehearsal, working with actors, tech week, performances, and more. This workshop is for all levels of experience.

Oct 14 - Intro to Directing with Jessica Abdallah

Crack open a script and discover the first step in bringing it from &quot;page to stage.&quot; In this 2-hour Text Analysis workshop, we&rsquo;ll dive into given circumstances, the &quot;moment before,&quot; and the hidden clues in the text that bring characters to life. Through practical exercises and group exploration, you&rsquo;ll learn how to make bold, specific acting choices straight from the page. Part of the MTC festival workshop series, this session is open to all: whether you&rsquo;re brand new or a seasoned artist. Come sharpen your skills, swap perspectives, and connect with a community of theatre makers across all levels and disciplines.

How do you write a script for the stage? What exactly does a director do?&nbsp;What&#39;s the difference between acting for TV and acting for theatre? This fall we&#39;re running five one-off workshops on the ins and outs of making theatre &mdash; playwriting, directing, text analysis, and auditioning for both stage&nbsp;and screen. Five Wednesday evenings, 7&ndash;9 PM, at Studio ED in Mile End. Each session is taught by a working Montreal theatre professional who also&nbsp;teaches for a living. Every workshop stands on its own &mdash; take one, or take all&nbsp;five.
