Monastery of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St. Joseph: Help us Build a Sacred Place for God's Glory!
As Discalced Carmelite Nuns, our vocation is to be “love in the Heart of the Church.” Through a cloistered, hidden life of prayer and sacrifice, each Sister labors for the growth and holiness of the Church, for the sanctification of priests and the hierarchy, and for the salvation of souls, praising God day and night on behalf of all humanity. The Traditional Latin Mass is offered daily for Our Community, and we recite the Traditional Divine Office. After moving from a noisy and dangerous location in Brooklyn, we are trying to re-establish our Carmelite Monastery in the Diocese of Scranton, Pennsylvania, where we were given the wonderful gift of land for a new Monastery, by a generous catholic family. We have developed a modular cloister for our First Carmel, and much of the work has already been accomplished, thanks to the charity of our friends and benefactors. However, we are still lacking part of the funds to complete the work. The First Carmel will include:A small Chapel - the spiritual heart of the temporary Monastery - which will be open to visitorsLiving quarters or cells, for the SistersA refectory for Community mealsWork areas for the SistersA novitiate house where new Sisters will receive their formation as novices This is not simply a construction project, but the beginning of a permanent home for our Carmel, dedicated to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and St. Joseph. It is a Monastery where we will live dedicated lives offered to God according to the Carmelite tradition, where future vocations will be formed, and it is a place where prayer will rise before God, ever imploring His mercy for all mankind. We humbly ask for your prayers, and for your help so that we can take this immediate and essential step toward establishing a permanent home for our Community. May Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and St. Joseph bless and reward you and your family abundantly for your generosity and love for religious life. With grateful hearts we offer perpetual prayers and Masses for our benefactors, living and deceased.
