From the wonder of Niagara Falls to the landscapes, cultures, and communities across the region, Niagara’s story is written in ancient rock and continues to unfold through the people and places that shape it today.

Join us for our next Niagara Geopark GeoClub for Kids adventure at the Lincoln Museum and Cultural Centre! We&rsquo;ll explore the museum and historic buildings before heading out along the Twenty Valley Trail to Sho&rsquo;ar&iacute;shon Park. During our walk, we&rsquo;ll discover some of the geology of the area and learn about the Neutral Nation (Attawandaron), the first known Indigenous inhabitants of this area. This family-friendly outing brings together geology, history and outdoor exploration, helping young people discover the many layers of Niagara&rsquo;s story. A $5 donation to the museum is suggested.

GeoClub for Kids: Layers of Lincoln

Join us for our next GeoClub for Kids adventure at Cave Springs Conservation Area Geosite. Cave Springs is one of Niagara&rsquo;s most fascinating geosites, offering visitors the chance to see several geologic processes in one place. During the visit, participants will explore how this landscape helps tell the story of:<ul data-spread="false" fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;"><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Ancient tropical seas, where dolostone caprock formed about 430 million years ago</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Differential erosion, where hard dolostone over softer shale helped create the escarpment</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Groundwater emergence, with springs flowing from the escarpment</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Rockfall and talus formation, showing how the escarpment continues to evolve today</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Glacial legacy, including the relationship to Lake Iroquois and the Lake Ontario basin</li></ul>This is a great opportunity for families to learn, explore, and experience one of Niagara&rsquo;s remarkable natural places together. The hike will be led by Katy from the NPCA. Please meet us at the red barn near the parking lot. Registration is limited to 50 participants.

GeoClub for Kids adventure at Cave Springs Conservation Area Geosite.

Doors open at 5:45 p.m.Program runs from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. This is a free event, but tickets are required. The evening will feature an update from Board Chair Perry Hartwick on the status of the Niagara Geopark&rsquo;s UNESCO submission. Perry will also dig a little deeper into the geology of the Geopark and why it matters to communities across Niagara. Special guest speakers will include Celeste Remillard, who will share insights on the Trail Network, and Walter Sendzik, who will speak to what the Geopark means to the region and its potential to support longer stays, stronger tourism experiences, and deeper regional connection across Niagara. The Niagara GeoClub for Kids is heading to the innovative Brock University Makerspace for a hands-on adventure that blends geology, technology and creativity.&nbsp; Young explorers will get a full tour of the makerspace, learn how fossils are scanned (https://skfb.ly/pGUII) and ultimately 3D print and paint their own replica fossils. There&#39;s plenty to see! It&#39;s a perfect opportunity&nbsp;for curious&nbsp;kids&nbsp;experience&nbsp;how modern technology can help us study and celebrate our planet&#39;s deep history. Brock University Makerspace for a Hands-on Adventure

Join Niagara Geopark for the first talk in our Speaker Series, featuring Dr. Julia Baird (Brock University).&nbsp; Climate models for the Niagara region show changing patterns of water availability, the potential for greater flooding and erosion along our shorelines, and degraded water quality. Often, these models fail to move people &ndash; the impacts feel far in the future and many of us fail to connect personally what can seem like vague, uncertain problems. Empathy is a promising psychological &lsquo;tool&rsquo; we can use that moves us past these barriers to take action for a better, more resilient water future. The ways in which the Water Resilience Lab at Brock is exploring the potential of empathy will be shared, along with concrete actions audience members can implement in their lives to use and promote empathy in support of a sustainable water future.

Niagara Geopark Speaker Series - March 25th

Step behind the scenes at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Museum and discover how stories of place are preserved, shared, and brought to life&mdash;during Ontario Heritage Week. GeoClub will include a behind-the-scenes museum experience followed by a short wrap-up hike to Voices of Freedom Park in recognition of Black History Month. Voices of Freedom is an experiential art installation designed to engage, educate, and challenge visitors&mdash;bringing forward voices from the past and deepening our understanding of how they helped shape our town and our country. And it&rsquo;s not just about looking back&mdash;it&rsquo;s also about what we carry forward. We&rsquo;ll finish with hot chocolate and time to reflect, ask questions, and connect.
