18th Annual African American Women's Wellness Walk

Join us on September 13, 2026, at The Elyria City Schools Performing Arts Center from 3:00-5:00 pm&nbsp;for the&nbsp;premiere screening of History in Black: A Lorain County Series&nbsp;produced by Emmy award-winning storyteller, Betty J. Halliburton.&nbsp;This moving docuseries shines a cinematic light on three extraordinary individuals from Lorain County (OH). Their journeys reveal the enduring power of purpose, sacrifice, and legacy. &nbsp;Featured Segments: Toni Morrison &ndash; Beloved: A Celebration of YouBorn in Lorain. Read around the world. As her books face renewed challenges, this segment revisits the late Toni Morrison&rsquo;s roots and how a statewide yearlong celebration is ensuring that her voice through literature will never be silenced or erased.Parris Smith &ndash; Planted for PurposeFrom Lorain County to the national stage, Parris Smith is currently the youngest president in the National Urban League movement of the 92 affiliates. Her story, rooted and grounded in faith, captures her journey of being cultivated to lead to being a voice on the frontlines of the civil rights movement both locally and nationally.Farah Emeka &ndash; History in MotionFrom the Underground Railroad to modern-day firsts in education and justice, Oberlin proves that progress isn&rsquo;t a chapter. It&rsquo;s a pattern. We&rsquo;ll introduce you to Lorain County&rsquo;s first African American female Judge Farah Emeka of Oberlin, and why her victory was not only historic, but a victory for us all. In addition to the screening, there will be a discussion with docuseries participants, performances, and recognitions. We are excited to be recognized as a Community Partner of the Greater Cleveland Urban Film Festival (GCUFF).

History in Black: A Lorain County Series

CLEVELAND, OH &mdash; October 16, 2026 &mdash; Over two hundred faith and community leaders from across Northeast Ohio will come together for the Annual Faith &amp; Leaders Environmental Impacts Luncheon, a powerful gathering held at Corporate College East in Warrensville Heights, Ohio to explore the intersection of faith, leadership, and environmental health &mdash; and to celebrate a bold new chapter for one of the region&rsquo;s most influential equity organizations. Hosted by the Northeast Ohio Black Health Coalition (NEOBHC), the luncheon will highlight how faith communities serve as trusted centers of refuge and hope during times of crisis,ranging from climate emergencies to public health challenges.&nbsp; Yvonka M. Hall, MPA, Executive Director. &ldquo;Resilience is not just surviving; it&rsquo;s thriving together. We remain deeply rooted in equity, and now we rise as a center of hope, action, and transformation for all communities. &rdquo;This year&rsquo;s luncheon will highlight NEOBHC&rsquo;s groundbreaking partnership with The Ohio State University through NOAA&rsquo;s Climate Resilience Regional Challenge, &ldquo;Reimagining Communities&rdquo; Project, which addressed environmental health disparities across nine Northeast Ohio counties: Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Mahoning, Medina, Summit, and Trumbull. Mt. Sinai Foundation is a proud sponsor of this years luncheon. The keynote address will be delivered by Rev. Dr. Ambrose Carroll, Sr., senior pastor at Renewal Worship Center Oakland, CA, is one of the nation&rsquo;s premiere Practical Theologians. Founding Pastor of the Renewal Worship Center Christian Church of Denver, CO. At the time, Renewal Worship Center was one of the first foundationally environmentally friendly &ldquo;Green&rdquo; Churches in the country. Dr. Carroll combined theology with ecology and challenged the church universal to embrace its mantle of creation care. This church was listed in the May edition of Fast Company Magazine and on CNN as one of the most innovative business ideas of 2011, stating, &quot;Carroll has taken faith-based initiatives to a new level with what you might call initiative-focused faith. His inner-city church has an explicitly environmental emphasis and an outreach arm that offers green-job training and placement.&quot; During the luncheon, NEOBHC will honor a remarkable group of 2026 Resilience Rising Warrior Honorees individuals and organizations leading environmental change across the region:John M. Annual Faith and Leaders Environmental Impacts Luncheon

Plastics and Health Regional Forum: Connecting Human, Environmental and&nbsp;Great Lakes Health in the Age of Plastic Pollution The inaugural Plastics and Health Regional Forum will bring together researchers, healthcare professionals, students, and community leaders to explore connections between plastic pollution, ecological health, and human well-being. The forum will feature presentations, a panel discussion, local artwork, and networking opportunities focused on plastics research, human health concerns, policy responses, and practical solutions.Designed to foster collaboration across disciplines, the forum will encourage participants to share knowledge, build partnerships, and discuss opportunities for action. In-person registration is limited due to venue capacity, and early registration is strongly encouraged.&nbsp; A free webinar option will be available for those who are unable to attend in person.Join us for an informative day of learning and discussion with experts from across the Lake Erie and Lake Ontario region.
