It will be a great opportunity to connect and network before the conference begins.&nbsp; On Tuesday June 23rd, we&#39;ll kick things off in the Cascade room of the Clairon with a breakfast keynote address by David Campbell of Jupia Consulting,&nbsp;called Immigration is about building communities - Rural and Samll Urban Immigration in Canada - Similarities Between Atlntic Canada and Northern Ontario.&nbsp; This will be followed by a discussion with Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills. We will explore with them recent changes in federal and provincial immigration policy, current immigration goals for Ontario and Canada, and potential future directions. Northern Policy Institute (NPI) is once again proud to organize the Sustainable Northern Ontario Economic Development (SNOED) 101 course in fall 2026. Economic development is more than cutting trees and digging holes. An economy based only on resources is born to die. Minerals are finite, forests are threatened by climate change and the industry is subject to frequent trade restrictions. Commodity prices fluctuate, technology reduces employment, distance drives up cost, a scattered population stretches services and taxes are high. Important decisions about business, labour, media, education, investment and politics are usually made elsewhere. Sustainability requires innovation, collaboration, education, courage and determination. That&#39;s what this virtual course is about: SNOED was created to help participants better understand the circumstances facing Northern Ontario and learn how communities can take greater responsibility for shaping their own economic future. You will get the foundation you need to understand and promote economic and social development in Northern Ontario. You will get a focus on Northern Ontario opportunities and challenges, and you will benefit from the experience of many people who have worked to improve the north (access our collective memory). The course will help you understand the special problems and opportunities that face this region. It will introduce you to the forces shaping the people and institutions of our region. It will help you identify the strategies that can work and the ones that won&rsquo;t, as well as learn from past success and mistakes. <ul fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;"><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">12 weeks long</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">If you complete the final capstone project, the course earns you 10 credits of the 45 required for certification by the Economic Developers Association of Canada</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">SNOED 101 is offered in English only. The French-language DEDNO 101 course will be offered in early 2027. They both cover the same themes.</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">A minimum of 8 students is required to run the course. C&#39;est de cela dont traite ce cours virtuel : Le programme SNOED a &eacute;t&eacute; cr&eacute;&eacute; pour aider les participants &agrave; mieux comprendre les enjeux auxquels est confront&eacute; le Nord de l&#39;Ontario et &agrave; d&eacute;couvrir comment les collectivit&eacute;s peuvent s&#39;impliquer davantage dans la construction de leur propre avenir &eacute;conomique. Vous obtiendrez les fondations n&eacute;cessaires pour comprendre et promouvoir le d&eacute;veloppement &eacute;conomique et social dans le Nord de l&#39;Ontario. Vous aurez un aper&ccedil;u des opportunit&eacute;s et des d&eacute;fis du nord de l&#39;Ontario, et vous b&eacute;n&eacute;ficierez de l&#39;exp&eacute;rience de nombreuses personnes qui ont travaill&eacute; &agrave; l&#39;am&eacute;lioration du nord (acc&eacute;der &agrave; notre m&eacute;moire collective). Le cours vous aidera &agrave; comprendre les probl&egrave;mes et opportunit&eacute;s particuliers auxquels cette r&eacute;gion fait face. Il vous pr&eacute;sentera les forces qui fa&ccedil;onnent les personnes et les institutions de notre r&eacute;gion. Il vous aidera &agrave; identifier les strat&eacute;gies qui peuvent fonctionner et celles qui ne fonctionneront pas, ainsi qu&#39;&agrave; apprendre des succ&egrave;s et des erreurs pass&eacute;s. <ul fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;"><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">12 semaines</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Si vous terminez le projet final, le cours vous rapporte 10 cr&eacute;dits sur les 45 n&eacute;cessaires pour la certification par l&#39;Association des d&eacute;veloppeurs &eacute;conomiques du Canada</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">SNOED 101 est offert en anglais. Le cours DEDNO 101 en fran&ccedil;ais sera offert au d&eacute;but de 2027. Les deux cours traitent les m&ecirc;mes th&egrave;mes.</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Un minimum de 8 &eacute;tudiants est requis pour que le cours ait lieu.
