We are currently working on the crosstie replacement project, which is a large, long-term undertaking that will take considerable time to complete. In the meantime, our most pressing immediate need is the lighting project. We are hopeful that we can complete the lighting improvements on the Bridge within the next couple of months, installing the new lighting in stages and testing it against various weather conditions as the work progresses. With everyone&#39;s help and support, we hope to have the Bridge well-lit from end to end, providing a safer and more enjoyable experience for all who walk it. Thank you for joining us in caring for and preserving this historic landmark!

Step Up for the Bridge Sunday, November 15, 2026, 2:00 p.m. Come Step Up for the Bridge! Step Up for the Bridge is an opportunity for individuals, families, and friends to come together on Sunday afternoon, November 15, at 2:00 p.m. to support the historic Old Railroad Bridge. Participants can walk or run the two-mile route while enjoying beautiful views of the Tennessee River and experiencing this historic landmark in a whole new way.Whether you walk with your family, gather a group of friends, or choose to run the route, every step helps support the future of the Old Railroad Bridge. Why Are We Stepping Up?The Old Railroad Bridge Company is working to raise approximately $600,000 for the replacement of the railroad crossties located above the walking deck of the bridge.These crossties are an important part of the bridge&#39;s structure. Replacing them is one of the major preservation projects needed to help ensure that the bridge remains safe and available for future generations. Step Up for the Bridge is designed to be a fun, family-friendly fundraiser while also bringing greater awareness of the ongoing financial needs of this historic landmark. RegistrationFirst family member: $25 Includes a Step Up for the Bridge T-shirt.Each additional family member: $12Every registered participant will receive a T-shirt. Your participation will help raise funds for the replacement of the crossties and other necessary bridge maintenance as we work toward this major preservation project. Help Us Reach Our $600,000 GoalReplacing the crossties will cost approximately $600,000. This is a significant project, and we cannot do it alone. We are asking local businesses, organizations, families, and individuals to step up and support the bridge. We will be holding several fundraising events throughout 2027 as we continue working toward this important goal. The Old Railroad Bridge is much more than a bridge. It is a treasured part of the Shoals&#39; history, a destination enjoyed by our community, and an important attraction for visitors to the area. The Old Railroad Bridge attracts visitors to the area and contributes to local tourism and the economy. Its historic designation and location along the Tennessee River make it a valuable part of the heritage of the Shoals and the State of Alabama.
