Opera Maine is dedicated to providing creative and inspiring opera productions and other performances of artistic excellence and ensuring that they are accessible to and representative of our community.

Opera Maine&#39;s Studio Artist Program presents Bound, a moving and contemporary chamber opera by acclaimed composer Huang Ruo and librettist Bao-Long Chu. Inspired by real events, Bound tells the powerful story of Diane Tran, a Vietnamese-American high school student balancing the weight of her family&rsquo;s expectations, cultural identity, and the harsh realities of the legal system. Through Huang Ruo&rsquo;s evocative score&mdash;blending Western and Eastern musical traditions&mdash;and Bao-Long Chu&rsquo;s poignant text, Bound explores themes of belonging, duty, and the search for personal freedom. This intimate production, conducted by Lance Inouye and directed by&nbsp;Richard Gammon, features the talented young artists of Opera Maine&rsquo;s Studio Artist Program, offering audiences an unforgettable and thought-provoking theatrical experience. Serenade - June 7

In appreciation of your support, Opera Maine invites you to a cocktail party and special presentation, &quot;Italian Painters and Opera in 19th-Century America,&quot; by historian, author, and Opera Maine president, Arlene Palmer Schwind. Party hosted by Rosemary Harris. RSVP by May 13. Arlene&#39;s new book, &quot;Bold, Designing Fellows&quot;: Italian Decorative and Scenic Artists in Nineteenth-Century America, will be available for purchase.

Children&#39;s Songs and Stories&nbsp;with Alexander Adams-Leytes Join us for our FREE Children&rsquo;s songs and stories event. Bring your children for this special introduction to opera with singing and storytelling, &ldquo;tea bites&rdquo; (think crustless PB&amp;J, cookies, etc.) and fun! (All food provided at this event will be kosher style.) Any dressing up that adds to the fun is encouraged.&nbsp; Join us for the Serenade (4-6 PM). Childcare will be provided by reservation.
