If you get 80% or more (Basic with Honours), you&rsquo;ll have greater operating privileges.

Join us for the OARC Soldering Skills workshop (Winter 2026)! Three, fun, hands-on sessions where you will develop soldering skills for antenna and coax cable assembly. &nbsp;It is designed to complement the upcoming antenna-building workshop(s).<ul fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;" type="disc"><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Session 1 (29 March):&nbsp;Essential tools and supplies needed for antenna and connector work with an emphasis on how much you should spend on kit.*</li></ul>* You are expected to have your own soldering iron and basic tools for this workshop and the first session will provide you with some guidance. You have a month between Sessions 1 and 2 to give you time to buy or borrow the necessary equipment. OARC - Workshop - Soldering Skills (Winter 2026)

Join us for our Soldering Skills &amp; Kit-Building Workshop - a series of fun, hands-on sessions over 4-5 weeks where you&rsquo;ll learn soldering skills, and build real projects alongside fellow members! &nbsp; This workshop is exclusive to members of the Ottawa Amateur Radio Club. In the first workshop session, participants will learn about all the tools and consumables that they will need to purchase. &nbsp;In the next 3-4 sessions, participants will learn through hands-on activities to solder and de-solder wires, thru-hole components and surface-mount devices (SMD). &nbsp;They will also build at least one simple kit. &nbsp;By the end of this workshop, participants will have the confidence to successfully build electronic kits and homebrew projects. The $25 fee helps cover materials, supplies, and refreshments so we can keep offering great learning events like this. Perfect for beginners or anyone wanting to sharpen their skills! text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial;">This course prepares you to communicate using Morse Code (CW) and prepares you to take your CW Amateur Radio Morse Code Qualification exam. &nbsp;It will also prepare you to use morse code in practical CW QSOs on amateur bands. &nbsp;Students will practice sending and receiving code using a code-practice oscillator (CPO) to develop proficiency. There will be instruction in the proper techniques for sending morse code using a common straight key. &nbsp;Instruction will cover receiving and sending the 26 letters of the alphabet, the 10 numbers, common punctuation marks, and Q-code and other common acronyms used in CW communications. All course materials are provided. Code practice exercises will be provided. Participants require a Morse key and code practice oscillator.
