So Much Sourdough is part of our OMSH Uncovered Series 🥖🔎&mdash;The UK Cooperative Extension Office will take you through a closer look at the science, history, and everyday magic of bread. Join Coffee Curators ☕ for our September meetup! This club is geared toward middle school students in 6th through 9th grade (ages 11-14), though older high school students are also welcome. In this meeting, we will explore the stories behind selected objects from the Owensboro Museum of Science and History. We&rsquo;ll look closely, ask questions, and share what we notice. Coffee Curators has a dedicated display in our museum where we share the objects curated by our amazing club members. We will also discuss upcoming exhibits and events, and how our members can volunteer! Whether you&rsquo;re a long‑time member or a first‑time visitor, your perspective helps us keep the museum curious, welcoming, and hands‑on for all ages. Reserve your spot and enjoy good coffee, good conversation, and a fresh look at our collections 🧠📚.

Coffee Curators- Sept Meeting

Get creative with Columbo as you explore hands-on crafts inspired by science and history 🧪✂️. Kids and caregivers will work side by side, building projects they can take home and talk about long after the visit. In this session, we will focus on creating with beads and learning about recycled art. Using beading and knotting skills, we will create a Tab Buddy keychain. All ages are welcome to participate. There are two sessions available. Each session is the same program. This session supports our mission to spark curiosity through play, discovery, and real tools and materials. All skill levels are welcome&mdash;just bring your imagination and be ready to try something new.

Crafts with Columbo

Build a beautiful charcuterie board while uncovering the stories behind favorite cheeses, meats, fruits, and more 🧀🥖. In this OMSH Uncovered session, The UK Cooperative Extension Office will guide you through simple techniques for pairing flavors, arranging your board, and serving with confidence. Join us for a fun and interactive class designed to help you learn the basic art of charcuterie board design! Participants will learn:<ul fr-original-style="text-align: start;" style="text-align: start; box-sizing: inherit;"><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Essential charcuterie board components.</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">How to pair meats, cheeses, and accompaniments.</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Tips for creating color, texture, and visual appeal.</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Portion planning for gatherings.</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Food safety and serving suggestions.</li></ul>Guided by our mission to spark curiosity, we&rsquo;ll blend food, fun, and a bit of history in a relaxed, hands-on setting. No prior experience needed&mdash;just come ready to taste, learn, and create.

Charcuterie 101- OMSH Uncovered Series

Tell history&#39;s stories at Camp Owensborough! This one week camp takes a deep dive into Owensboro&rsquo;s history and brings local legends and events back to life for one night. Working alongside professional historians, educators, and curators, students will spend the week researching, writing, building, and creating a performance &amp; museum exhibition based around historical Owensboro moments. AGES: 6th Grade through 12th GradeDATES &amp; TIME: July 27-31 from 8:30-3:30*COST: $75 for Museum Members &amp; $100 for Non-Members * Normal camp drop off begins at 8:30 with camp starting at 9am and ends at 3:30 with drop off ending at 4:30pm. If student is under the age of 13, we do require a grownup to enter the building for pick up &amp; drop off. Lunch is provided by the OPS Summer Feeding Program, but if your camper has allergies or a different lunch preference, they are more than welcome to bring their own lunch.&nbsp; We will be having a pizza &amp; ice cream party at the end of the week. Please let us know how we can best accommodate your camper if they have allergies preventing them for partaking in those items. Early drop off begins at 7:30am and late pick up ends at 5pm for those who need it. You&#39;ll need to specify that you do indeed need it on your form. If you didn&#39;t select it and there isn&#39;t enough interest, we won&#39;t have early drop off or late pick up. If your need changes, please let us know.&nbsp;

Camp Owensborough

M&amp;M Mysteries is a candy-filled adventure with the UK Cooperative Extension Service. 🍬🔎In this 1-hour session, kids will learn about logos, slogans, and designing. This event is designed for rising 6th thru 9th grade students, ages 11-14. This event supports our mission to spark curiosity and hands-on learning for visitors of all ages. Register below to reserve your spot and get ready for a sweet mystery at the Owensboro Museum of Science and History.

M&M Mysteries

LEAP into learning with us 🐾📚 This event brings literacy, healthy eating, and active play together in one hands-on museum experience. Kidsread a story, create a snack, &amp; do a hands-on activity. This event is co-sponsored with the UK Cooperative Extension Service. LEAP is a 1 hour event designed for young kids ages 3-7. Register below to save your spot. Your participation supports the Owensboro Museum of Science and History&rsquo;s mission to spark curiosity and discovery for families in our community.

LEAP (Literacy, Eating, and Activity for Primary)

Join us for Scat &amp; Tracks 🐾&mdash;Join our exclusive wildlife education class and discover if a footprint was left by a raccoon or a bobcat? Was that pile of droppings deposited by a squirrel or white tail deer? Come discover what may be roaming in our area.Kids will examine real track casts and scat replicas to discover who&rsquo;s been walking, hopping, and hunting in our region. Guided by our museum partners, The UK Cooperative Extension Office, you&rsquo;ll practice observation skills, compare specimens, and learn how scientists read the wild like a storybook. This program supports our mission to spark curiosity and connect everyday experiences with science and history. 🔍 Session 1: 10:00-11:00 amSession 2: 11:00- 12:00 pm

Scat & Tracks

Join us for &ldquo;Cooking with Columbo&rdquo; 🦣🍽️ Discovery Days @ OMSH is offering an exclusive Kids Cooking Class with Cheryl Burks-McCarthy where kids will uncover the secrets behind food safety, kitchen skills, and flavorful cuisine! This event is hosted by OMSH in partnership with the UK Cooperative Extension Office. During this event, kids will explore simple cooking chemistry, food safety, and learn safe cutting techniques. The mini chefs will get to create a delicious snack and devour it too&mdash;all inside our hands-on museum. Your registration helps us keep curiosity and discovery at the heart of the Owensboro Museum of Science and History. PLEASE NOTE: The 10 am session is for kids ages 5-11&nbsp;(Rising Kindergarten through 5th grade).The 11 am session&nbsp;is for kids ages 11-14 (Rising 6th through 8th grade). *Younger kids will be serving up salsa, while the older kids will learn to create a simple sheet pan meal. Please note any food allergies or dietary restrictions in your registration.*

Kick off the summer with an afternoon of family friendly fun at our Summer Fest! This members only celebration is packed with activities, treats, and more for guests of all ages!&nbsp; Enjoy a variety of carnival games where everyone wins a prize! Each child will receive a goodie bag filled with museum surprises.&nbsp; Hungry? We&rsquo;ve got you covered! Hotdogs, chips, and drinks will be available throughout the event. You know what&rsquo;s even sweeter? It&rsquo;s FREE! Additional snacks and treats may be available for purchase from community vendors throughout the event.&nbsp; From 4pm-6pm, put on your headphones and join the fun at our Silent Disco, where you can dance along to three different music styles. Don&rsquo;t miss the chance to snap a photo with Columbo! Our photographer is ready to capture all the smiles!&nbsp;
