Paititi Institute for the Preservation of Ecology and Indigenous Culture

Paititi Institute is a Peru-based nonprofit working with Indigenous nations of the Amazon and Andes to protect ecological lands and support ancestral schools where elders and children transmit living cultural knowledge in daily continuity.

We are extending our ancestral school initiative from the Yahua tribe in the Amazon rainforest to the Q’ero nation high in the Peruvian Andes. This new school will serve Q’ero elders and children, preserving living wisdom for future generations. The initiative is dedicated to the memory of our beloved Q’ero elder, Pampamesayoq Juan Gabriel Apaza Lunasco, who passed in 2024. High in the sacred mountains of the Andes live the Q’ero people, often referred to as the last living descendants of the Inca. For generations, they have carried profound spiritual and ecological knowledge rooted in direct relationship with Pachamama, Mother Earth. But like many Indigenous nations, the Q’ero face increasing pressures from modernization, migration, loss of language, and the erosion of cultural continuity. Over the past years, through our work with the Yahua tribe in the Amazon rainforest, we have witnessed what becomes possible when elders and children are brought back into living daily continuity. The Yahua Ancestral School now stands as a place where knowledge is transmitted not as performance for tourists, but as lived responsibility. We are now extending this same model to the Q’ero nation. This initiative was inspired and blessed by our dear elder, Pampamesayoq Juan Gabriel Apaza Lunasco, who walked with us generously and shared his heart with humility and strength. His passing in 2024 marked the end of a physical presence, but not the end of his lineage. This ancestral school in the Andes will honor his life by ensuring that Q’ero children grow up connected to their elders, language, cosmology, land stewardship practices, and rites of passage. What the Q’ero Ancestral School Will Support • A dedicated physical space for elder-to-youth transmission • Preservation of Quechua language and ceremonial knowledge• Land-based education rooted in Andean ecology • Intergenerational workshops for children and families• Infrastructure improvements to support community stability • Long-term cultural continuity beyond tourism-based incomeThis is not a museum. It is not preservation for spectators. It is continuity for the people themselves. Why This Matters Now Elders are living libraries. When one passes, entire constellations of memory can disappear. If children are separated from their traditions, they inherit identity fragmentation. If elders are separated from youth, wisdom becomes nostalgic instead of living.Ancestral schools restore that bridge. The Q’ero initiative represents the next step in uniting Amazon and Andes through practical reciprocity, not romanticism. How You Can Participate Your contribution will directly support: • Land preparation and building materials • Educational supplies • Travel and coordination with Q’ero elders • Development of curriculum rooted in Andean tradition• Long-term sustainability planning Every donation, large or small, becomes part of a living bridge between generations. Your donation will go directly toward these initiatives. We operate through the Paititi Institute, registered in Peru and fiscally sponsored in the United States under a 501(c)(3) nonprofit — meaning all donations made through Zeffy are tax-deductible in the U.S. Zeffy takes no fees; 100% of your contribution supports the project. * Please note that you may choose to leave a small optional tip to keep their platform free for nonprofits or just go to the $ amount box and take out Zeffy's additional commission). 🌞 Suggested Contribution Levels Our Gift To YOU! We have now reached the limit of what can be achieved with those earnings alone.🛖 The Next Phase - Building a Living Campus of RemembranceTo make this ancestral school truly come alive, we are now raising funds for:Five small dieta huts: safe spaces where Yahua youth can undergo traditional rites of passage and where turismo vivencial (experiential learning exchanges) can take place in harmony with the elders and the forest with additional income that supports the Yahua people in an honorable way.Compostable sanitary bathrooms: sustainable systems that respect the ecosystem while supporting long-term educational programs.Teaching curriculum development: integrating ancestral knowledge, ecological education, and emotional intelligence for Yahua children.Support for elder teachers: bringing Yahua wisdom-keepers from deeper parts of the rainforest to share oral traditions, songs, healing practices, and crafts that are in danger of being forgotten. Each of these additions strengthens the school’s foundation as a bridge between the ancestral and modern worlds.🌍 The Bigger PurposeRather than merely a local school this is a prototype for cultural survival. Our goal is to extend this living-education model to other Indigenous nations of the Amazon, Andes and the world, ensuring that the innocence of children and the wisdom of elders remain united as guardians of humanity’s true nature.💧 How You Can HelpYour donation will go directly toward these initiatives. We operate through the Paititi Institute, registered in Peru and fiscally sponsored in the United States under a 501(c)(3) nonprofit — meaning all donations made through Zeffy are tax-deductible in the U.S.Zeffy takes no fees; 100% of your contribution supports the project.* Please note that you may choose to leave a small optional tip to keep their platform free for nonprofits or just go to the $ amount box and take out Zeffy's additional commission).🌞 Suggested Contribution LevelsSymbolic TierAmountOur Gift To YOU! Support the living foundation of Paititi Institute: the guardianship of our 1,516-hectare Biocultural Reserve, our personnel and field operations, intercultural partnerships, documentation of ancestral wisdom, regenerative ecological initiatives, and the practical work required to carry this vision. Sustain Paititi Institute: Land, Culture & Living Wisdom Paititi Institute was founded in 2010 with a vision of restoring the living relationship between human beings, ancestral cultures, and the Earth. For more than two decades, we have worked alongside Indigenous communities of the Peruvian Amazon and Andes in the areas of cultural preservation, ecological stewardship, education, natural medicine, humanitarian assistance, and personal and collective transformation. Our work is not organized as a series of isolated projects. It is one living system in which the health of the land, the continuity of ancestral cultures, the well-being of communities, and the maturation of human consciousness are deeply interdependent. This campaign provides general operating support for the essential work that holds this system together and allows Paititi Institute to respond where resources are most needed. Your contribution helps support: • The ongoing guardianship and protection of the 1,516-hectare Paititi Biocultural Reserve in the buffer zone of Manu National Park Reserve • Personnel, local caretakers, guardians, legal support, administration, communications, and the organizational infrastructure required to sustain our work • Conservation, watershed protection, reforestation, permaculture, agroforestry, food cultivation, seed preservation, and other regenerative ecological initiatives • Travel and field expenses necessary to maintain long-term relationships with Indigenous communities throughout the Amazon, Andes, and beyond • The documentation and preservation of ancestral knowledge, including languages, stories, ecological knowledge, natural medicine, ceremonies, songs, arts, and land-based practices • The practical translation of ancestral wisdom into educational programs and living applications relevant to the ecological, social, and personal challenges of our time • Intercultural gatherings and initiatives that create meaningful bridges among Indigenous elders, children, local communities, researchers, educators, health practitioners, and people from different parts of the world • Photography, filmmaking, writing, translation, archiving, curriculum development, and other forms of documentation that allow living wisdom to be shared responsibly across cultures and generations • The continued development of the Yahua and Q’ero ancestral schools, community health initiatives, regenerative livelihoods, and the broader vision of uniting elders and children of the world One Living Vision The Paititi Biocultural Reserve protects 1,516 hectares where the high Andes meet the cloud rainforest. It safeguards forests, watersheds, archaeological sites, sections of the ancient Qhapaq Ñan, and an ecological corridor adjoining some of the most biodiverse territories on Earth. Yet protecting land requires more than holding title to it. It requires caretakers, guardians, legal defense, ecological monitoring, transportation, tools, communication, long-term planning, and people who can remain present through changing circumstances. The same is true of ancestral wisdom. Genuine preservation cannot be accomplished by removing knowledge from its cultural roots and placing it in an archive. Wisdom remains alive when elders can transmit it to children, when language continues to be spoken, when communities can remain connected to their lands, and when ancient principles are embodied in ways that respond intelligently to present-day life. This is why Paititi’s work brings conservation, culture, education, health, livelihoods, and inner development into one integrated vision. The reserve anchors the work in the land. The ancestral schools support intergenerational transmission. Intercultural programs build relationships of reciprocity. Documentation carries teachings forward with care, while regenerative initiatives help communities cultivate greater ecological and economic resilience. Why General Support Matters Many grants and fundraising campaigns are restricted to a single visible project. Yet every project depends upon less visible foundations: devoted personnel, responsible administration, transportation, maintenance, legal compliance, communications, relationship-building, and the ability to respond when unexpected needs arise. General donations allow Paititi Institute to direct resources where they can serve the greatest immediate and long-term benefit. They help us maintain continuity between periods of project-specific funding and protect the relationships that have been cultivated with Indigenous communities over many years. Whether you make a one-time contribution or become a monthly supporter, your gift helps sustain the roots from which every Paititi initiative grows. Thank you for walking with us and helping cultivate a future in which living cultures, healthy ecosystems, resilient communities, and awakened human beings can flourish together.
