SPEAKERS Dr. Miyabe ShieldsDr. Miyabe Shields, a Ph.D. pharmaceutical scientist specializing in the structural biochemistry of the endocannabinoid system for the past 16 years, has academic, industrial, and personal experience with cannabis as medicine. Following their Ph.D., they co-founded a cannabis research startup, exploring heat-transformed cannabinoids and developing new extraction methods. In 2023, Miyabe co-founded the Network of Applied Pharmacognosy (NAP), a research nonprofit focused on studying natural product synergies and prioritizing lived experience. Miyabe is a graduate of the Fellowship of River course and has expanded their interest in the classic serotonergic psychedelics since 2019.&nbsp; Lianna Tullis-RobinsonLianna Tullis-Robinson is a doctoral candidate in the counseling psychology program at Western Michigan University, community educator, and founder of the platform Excited About Entheogens. Her work centers on expanding inclusive conversations around psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy, healing, spirituality, and community care through a culturally responsive lens.As a researcher, Lianna&rsquo;s dissertation explores BIPOC perceptions of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy, making her among the first scholars at Western Michigan University to formally introduce psychedelic therapy research into dissertation work within her department. Dr. Sean M. Vi&ntilde;aDr. Sean M. Vi&ntilde;a is a sociologist at the University of the Incarnate Word whose research examines psychedelics, health inequality, stigma, religion, and social policy. His work focuses especially on how psychedelic use and psychedelic policy affect marginalized communities, including racial and ethnic minorities, gendered groups, and people facing social or structural disadvantage. Drawing from medical sociology, stigma theory, fundamental cause theory, and the stress process model, Dr. Vi&ntilde;a&rsquo;s research develops the framework of Minorities&rsquo; Diminished Psychedelic Returns, which examines why the potential benefits of psychedelic use may be unevenly distributed across social groups. His publications have appeared in journals such as Drug Science, Policy and Law, Journal of Psychoactive Drugs, Stigma and Health, and Journal of Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities. He also writes on psychedelic policy, harm reduction, and the risks of overmedicalization, with an emphasis on equity, community-centered approaches, and social justice. Rebekah Senānāyaka, Ph.D.&nbsp;Rebekah Senānāyaka, Ph.D. is a cultural anthropologist and ethnobotanist working toward the flourishing of all species through decolonial inquiry into indigenous plant knowledge and altered states of consciousness. A Fellow of The Explorers Club and a member of the Burroughs Wellcome Fund As1 Next Generation Advisory Council, she completed 27 months of fieldwork over a decade of engagement in remote Amazonia. She has worked with eleven maestros across five indigenous traditions, including an apprenticeship with the Kichwa as the first woman apprentice to a prominent Amazonian teacher. Through her Sri Lankan ancestral lineage she carries thousands of years of plant relationality, bridging Eastern and Amazonian perspectives. Her doctoral research produced the first in-depth ethnographic account of chiric sanango and developed the framework of extended multispecies liminality. Her current scholarship investigates indigenous communities as multispecies political economies, advancing non-extractive frameworks for psychedelic research grounded in human and plant hybrid consciousness.
