Despite those difficulties, our volunteers continue to show up every day to care for more than 100 rescued cats and kittens relying on us for food, shelter, medical treatment, medications, and daily care. Many of the cats we take in come from difficult situations, abandoned outdoors, surrendered during hardships, rescued from unsafe environments, or requiring medical attention that might otherwise go untreated. Some are adopted quickly, while others remain with us longer due to age, medical needs, or socialization challenges. Our goal is not simply to place cats quickly, but to thoughtfully match them with the right homes to improve long-term success for both the cats and their adopters. As we work to stabilize and strengthen the organization for the future, every donation directly helps support lifesaving care, improve shelter conditions, maintain medical treatment, and continue our rescue efforts during this critical period. When it Rains, it Pours...⛈️ Over the past few months, Western New York has been hit with several rounds of intense rainfall. Many of us have found ourselves dealing with flooded basements, garages, and yards 🫩 Unfortunately, our shelter has been no exception... Every time we get a heavy rain, water pours off the front of our roof, creating flooding around our entrance and allowing water to make its way into parts of our building. In some areas, the water has become several inches deep, leaving our volunteers scrambling to keep things dry while our cats huddle in fear, unsure of what&#39;s happening around them. It&#39;s heartbreaking to watch animals who should feel safe in our care become frightened by something as simple as a rainstorm 💔 After recently watching the flooding firsthand, we learned that one of the biggest contributors is the fact that our building has no gutter system along the front of the roof. Installing gutters won&#39;t solve every drainage issue our unique property faces, but it is an important first step in protecting the shelter and preventing this cycle from repeating every time it storms. As we were trying to figure out how to tackle this unexpected expense, we received more difficult news.One of our sweetest (and shyest) residents, Wendy, was diagnosed with a severely infected ear polyp. She will need surgery to remove it, followed by antibiotics and recovery care so she can finally be comfortable and, we hope, find the loving home she deserves 💗 Wendy is one of our shy girls. Her brothers recently found their forever homes, but Wendy is still waiting for hers. Now, instead of preparing for adoption, she&#39;s preparing for surgery. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our Give716 supporters, we&#39;ve already been able to begin regular wellness checks for the cats in our care&mdash;something we&#39;ve wanted to do for a long time. Those donations are already making a difference by helping us identify health concerns earlier and provide better preventative care. We are so grateful for that support. Unfortunately, the flooding and Wendy&#39;s surgery are unexpected expenses that simply weren&#39;t part of that plan.It&#39;s one of those moments where it truly feels like when it rains, it pours 😢 Our initial goal is to raise $5,000 to begin addressing these urgent needs. While we&#39;re still gathering estimates for the gutter installation and finalizing Wendy&#39;s treatment costs, this will allow us to make immediate progress on both. If additional funds are needed, every dollar raised will continue to go directly toward completing these projects and providing medical care for the cats who depend on us.
