Providence Eye

Providence Eye is a nonprofit journalistic initiative dedicated to informing and empowering the Providence community about local events and issues, fostering engagement and understanding among residents and visitors alike.

Meeting Location: JWU Harborside Campus, Parking Lot F WHERE DOES PVD&#39;S TRASH GO?&nbsp;Join The Providence Eye to hop on a school bus in Providence and trek out to Johnston, the site of Rhode Island&#39;s ONLY landfill, which is estimated to reach capacity in the next 20 years.&nbsp; This trip out to Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation will be an illuminating (and maybe a little stinky) experience for those interested in what happens to their trash after it&#39;s scooped up by the garbage truck.&nbsp; Together, we will brainstorm what happens after the landfill fills up, as well as possible ways to reduce waste output. Ticket sales include transportation to the Johnston site. This tour is not recommended for small children, as it will require prolonged time on a bus.

Featuring Dr. Rollie Wesen&mdash;chef, professor of culinary arts and food studies at Johnson &amp; Wales University, and Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Jacques P&eacute;pin Foundation&mdash;this event will explore the people, traditions, and institutions that shaped Providence&rsquo;s food identity, and what lies ahead for one of the region&rsquo;s most distinctive dining destinations. Perfect for food lovers, curious locals, and anyone interested in Providence&#39;s rich history.
