Support The Mission
Last Responder, a program of Responders Inc., exists to support medicolegal death professionals who work tirelessly to help their communities. Medicolegal Death Professionals are called when tragedy strikes - yet historically, very little infrastructure has existed to support the professionals doing this work.We are building a national infrastructure that has never existed for this profession, and we cannot do it alone. What started as a small group of professionals supporting one another has grown into a national initiative serving thousands of Medicolegal Death Professionals.Medicolegal Death Professionals are public service professionals authorized by law to investigate deaths that are sudden, unexpected, violent, unattended, or otherwise subject to legal inquiry. These professionals work at the intersection of public safety, public health, and the criminal justice system. Their role is essential, yet often carried out without the protections, recognition, or resources afforded to other responders. Through Responders Inc., the Last Responder program advocates for:* Professional recognition* Legislative protections* Mental health support and wellness initiatives* Professional development* National standards awarenessLast Responder provides advocacy, recognition, community support, and standards awareness for Medicolegal Death Professionals. It does not regulate or replace existing professional associations or governing bodies. Medicolegal Death Professionals are legally required to respond when death falls under medicolegal jurisdiction. If the law requires a response, the law should protect the responder.
