Talking with kids about trauma, abuse, and scary news is hard&mdash;and you don&rsquo;t have to figure it out alone. 💬 This session offers practical tools, sample language, and age-appropriate approaches presented by <a fr-original-style="" href="https://readykidscville.org/" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: currentcolor; user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">ReadyKids</a> counselors Ashley Wood and Kat Ahearne. Together, we&rsquo;ll focus on honest, calm conversations that help kids feel heard and safe. 💜 This event is open to parents, caregivers, and anyone who supports children in our community.

How to Talk to Kids about Trauma and Difficult Topics

Bystander Skills for Parents, Guardians, and Community 👨&zwj;👩&zwj;👧&zwj;👦This trauma-informed training will help adults rebuild a sense of confidence and collective safety following harm within a community. The training will focus on practical actions adults can take when they notice concerning behavior, boundary violations, unsafe situations, or warning signs that something may not be right.&nbsp; The session will also provide parents and caregivers with developmentally appropriate tools for talking with children about body autonomy, boundaries, trusted adults, and asking for help.&nbsp; At SARA, we believe safety is a shared responsibility. Together, we&rsquo;ll explore simple tools to interrupt harmful behavior, check in with survivors, and help create spaces where everyone is respected and heard. ⭐

Local breweries are coming together to raise awareness and funds for the Sexual Assault Resource Agency (SARA) during April, Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Each brewery hosts a release party for their unique brew. The brewers are putting their own twists on a beer that features Simcoe hops, an American varietal known for bright, citrusy flavors with earthy undertones. It is a favorite among American brewers and consumers alike, espcially for IPA lovers.&nbsp; SARA is a 501(c)3 non-profit agency working to eliminate sexual violence and its impacts through education, advocacy, and support services. SARA serves individuals and communities in the City of Charlottesville and the counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson. SARA works with survivors of all ages and genders, as well as nonoffending friends and family.
