The Syrian British Council fosters community and resilience among Syrians in the UK, promoting cultural exchange and support for those affected by the Syrian conflict while advocating for freedom and justice.

Our Mission: Standing Between Safety and Deportation for Syrian Refugees Imagine surviving a brutal civil war, finding sanctuary in the UK, building a life over five years, and finally applying for the permanent safety you were promised—only to receive a refusal letter from the Home Office. For dozens of Syrian families in our community, this nightmare is currently a reality. After fleeing conflict and successfully holding refugee status, their applications for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) have been abruptly turned down. They are now facing immense legal uncertainty, the terrifying threat of deportation, and the sudden loss of their rights to work, access the NHS, and house their children. Why This Cause is CriticalThe UK immigration system is notoriously complex and hostile. When the Home Office wrongly refuses a status, the only path forward is aggressive legal intervention—such as an Administrative Review or a Judicial Review. While applications for ILR at the end of a five-year refugee period do technically qualify for Legal Aid, the reality on the ground is stark. The systemic shrinking of Legal Aid capacity has left local firms completely overwhelmed. Private legal fees for complex appeals cost thousands of pounds—an impossible barrier for families who have lost everything. Without immediate legal representation, these families are far more likely to slip into destitution, marginalisation, and wrongful removal. How Your Donation Changes LivesWe are urgently raising funds to cover the direct legal costs for specialized law firms to fight these Refusals. Every pound you give goes directly toward a legal defence fund. Your support will pay for:

Expert immigration solicitor casework hours to appeal wrongful decisions.

Barrister fees for representation at tribunal hearings.

Vital documentation, translation services, and evidence gathering.

We cannot let bureaucracy tear apart families who have already endured so much. They fought to survive; now, let’s help them fight for their right to stay. Donate Now to the Syrian Refugee Legal Defence Fund.
