Friends of CSS (Community Security Service)
Why CSS?JewishColumbus provides one branch of our security system through armed security. CSS provides another essential layer of protection. CSS volunteers monitor entrances and check people as they enter our buildings, serving as the eyes and ears of our community during Shabbat services and other communal activities. They work alongside our armed security personnel to help keep our congregations safe.Friends of CSS supports our community volunteers who safeguard our community alongside paid security so the rest of us can attend services, sleep in and spend time with friends and families. These volunteers on their feet for hours at a time. At present, a relatively small number of volunteers, primarily 50 years old and above, are carrying a disproportionate share of the shifts, often leading to fatigue, physical pain and burnout. This responsibility should not fall on the same small group of people week after week. How can you ease the burden of our volunteers who so selflessly give up their time and are asked to pay for their own safety vests? Share in the responsibility of safeguarding yourself, your family, and your community. SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER!A small commitment on your part can make a huge difference to our standing volunteers. When enough people sign up, everyone works once every 61 days, and if extras sign up, shifts could be only a few times a year. Can you give up a little tie to give your landsmen a much needed break. Right now, many are doing the equivalent of 5 community members' shifts.Three options:1) DonateHelp our courageous volunteers acquire safety vests and other protective equipment.Zonate through this site.2) Show your appreciationWrite letters of appreciation to our volunteers—and get your children involved, too.Simply donate at least $1 and you'll move on to a page where you can submit notes of appreciation. (Find a way)3) Donate YOUR TIMEThis is what we need more than anything. Sign up for a CSS volunteer shift and share the responsibility of keeping our community safe.https://thecss.org/become-a-volunteer/protect-your-synagogue
