She Never Knew What It Meant to Be Cared For&hellip; Until NowThis young momma dog, estimated to be just 2 to 4 years old, and her tiny 6-week-old puppy were found abandoned along the side of the road in front of an RV park in Murray County. I walked through the park searching for anyone who might know where they belonged. Two different families told me they believed she was a stray because they saw her wandering the area on a regular basis. When I opened my car door, she didn&#39;t hesitate. She climbed right in, as if she knew this was her chance. She was exhausted, severely overheated, and ready for someone&mdash;anyone&mdash;to help her. The local shelter posted her as a found dog on Facebook, and four days later someone came forward claiming to be her owner. During their conversation, the shelter learned this sweet girl had never been to a veterinarian. After seeing the condition she was in, the shelter worked with the owner to surrender her so she could finally receive the medical care she desperately needed. Nothing could have prepared us for what the veterinarian discovered. The Good News<ul fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;"><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Heartworm test: Negative</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">No intestinal parasites were found (she was dewormed the day she was rescued).</li></ul>The Heartbreaking Reality Years of neglect had taken a devastating toll on her body. She is suffering from severe flea allergy dermatitis, leaving her skin inflamed and painfully irritated. Six of her eight mammary glands contain tumors that must be removed. She will require a radical mastectomy to give her the best chance at a healthy future. She also has a large epulis (oral tumor) in her mouth that requires surgery. Chest X-rays revealed an enlarged heart, and an echocardiogram confirmed a Grade II heart murmur. She will need daily heart medication for the rest of her life. She is currently battling bronchitis and is being treated with amoxicillin, while her bloodwork revealed an active infection her body has been fighting. It&#39;s heartbreaking to think that this gentle, loving dog endured all of this while trying to care for her puppy. Yet despite everything she has suffered, she greets everyone with a wagging tail, gentle eyes, and unwavering trust. She doesn&#39;t seem bitter. She simply wants to be loved. Today, she finally has hope. But hope comes with a cost. She faces multiple surgeries, lifelong heart medication, continued treatment, and weeks of recovery. Every dollar donated will go directly toward her veterinary care, surgeries, medications, and rehabilitation so she can finally experience the healthy, pain-free life she has always deserved.
