Slow Food Tri-Cities champions good, clean, and fair food by supporting local farmers and preserving regional food traditions. Through community events and initiatives, they promote sustainable food practices and celebrate local culinary heritage.

The food system is broken, and it was broken on purpose.&nbsp; Consolidation, industrialization, and the relentless prioritization of profit over people have stripped this region, and regions like it, of the farms, the farmers, and the food traditions that once made communities self-sustaining. One in eight people in Northeast Tennessee is food insecure. Meanwhile, small farms are disappearing, heritage crops are vanishing, and the knowledge of how to grow, preserve, and cook real food is disappearing. Our culture is built for speed: drive-throughs, delivery services, and microwave meals eaten alone in front of a screen. And this speed and efficiency has robbed us of the wisdom that food is more than just fuel. It&#39;s pleasure. It&#39;s culture. It&#39;s kinship. It&#39;s ours. The industrial food system is not clean. It&#39;s not fair. And it&#39;s not built to serve everyone.&nbsp; Slow Food Tri-Cities exists to push back against this way of living and eating, to remind others that fast consumption, displacement from the land, divestment from your community, and the loneliness that follows are not inevitabilities.&nbsp; We are a newly established 501(c)(3) building a food movement rooted in Northeast Tennessee, one that reconnects people to the land, the farmers, craftspeople and food traditions that have always sustained this region.&nbsp; Here&#39;s some of what your donation will fund: Rooted: A Living Atlas of the Tri-Cities&nbsp;Foodshed&nbsp; Our flagship project to document and map the farms, seed keepers, heritage food producers, Black farmers, Indigenous food tradition holders, artisans, and crafters who feed this region and keep its slow arts alive. The Atlas will be a free, searchable resource anyone can use to find good food, discover artisan crafts, and build community around both. The Heirloom Recipe Collection&nbsp; A community-driven archive of the recipes passed down in this region&#39;s kitchens, every dish tied to place, season, and memory, collected now so they can be bound, eventually, into a cookbook that belongs to the people who made them. Education, events, and community convenings&nbsp; On-farm gatherings, cooking classes, pot lucks, food justice programming, and partnerships with organizations like Project MANNA that center the communities most affected by an industrial food system. Slow Food Tri-Cities is affiliated with Slow Food USA and part of a global movement active in more than 160 countries, but we are not a franchise, and we don&#39;t answer to a national office.&nbsp; We are an independent 501(c)(3), locally governed and volunteer-led. Our decisions, our programs, and our priorities are made right here by the people who live, eat, and grow food right here. Some membership dues support national Slow Food initiatives, but every donation dollar from here, stays here.&nbsp; Nobody is coming to fix this for us.&nbsp; That&#39;s why we&#39;re here, and why we need you. Slow Down This Season with Slow Food Tri-Cities Join us for our Slow Holiday Fundraiser, an afternoon and evening dedicated to good, clean, and fair food, supporting local farmers and preserving the food traditions that make our region special. The celebration kicks off with a cooking and holiday craft-making demonstration, followed by heavy appetizers, local and regional wines, and a silent auction stocked with treasures for slow food and slow living lovers alike. Held at the beautiful Spade &amp; Spoon Farm in Johnson City, the day includes photo ops with resident mini donkeys Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson, and a chance to learn how you can get involved with Slow Food Tri-Cities, including a look ahead at our spring 2027 events and initiatives. Come celebrate a slow holiday rooted in local tradition, good food, and community.
