<a fr-original-style="" href="https://www.mounthopeworldsingers.org/" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: initial; user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">Mount Hope World Singers</a> (MHWS), in collaboration with local instrumentalists/composers <a fr-original-style="" href="https://kenlukmusic.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: initial; user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">Ken Luk</a>, <a fr-original-style="" href="https://leahoupipa.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: initial; user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">Leah Ou</a>, and <a fr-original-style="" href="https://www.crossbridgewellness.com/our-team/alyssa-rodriguez" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: initial; user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">Alyssa Rodriguez</a>, is thrilled to present a one-hour, immersive experience of musical healing.&nbsp; Bldg. 4, Brighton Campus1000 E Henrietta Rd.Rochester, NY 14623(Parking in Lot F) This collaboration draws on and reinterprets global historical examples of music as medicine, creating a transformative new work focused on common humanity and emphasizing healing connection. <a fr-original-style="" href="https://annikabentley.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: initial; user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">Annika Bentley</a> (MHWS Artistic Director), Ken Luk, Leah Ou, and Alyssa Rodriguez have each composed new music for this project, in addition to selecting works from the world song traditions /instruments that each contributor specializes in.&nbsp; Bright Threads features Swedish Nyckelharpa, Zimbabwean Mbira, Chinese Pipa, and selected choral music from around the world. Key reference materials include Healing Songs by Ted Gioia, The Soulof Mbira by Paul Berliner, and I Heard There was a Secret Chord by Daniel Levitin. The project favors explorations of chant and euphoric rhythms in addition to lyrical and thematic content about illness and healing. Types of healing explored will include body, mind, spirit, family, community, nature, intercultural connection, and the world at large. Both performances will be ASL interpreted. There will be latex-free balloons available, enabling audience members to feel sonic vibrations with their hands.&nbsp; We hope you will join us!.

Ladybug Day is a free annual community building event open to anyone in the Greater Rochester Area. Featuring &nbsp;en plein air artists, crafts and gardening activities for children (of all ages!), an assortment of local artisans and food vendors, and live musical entertainment, it is a free day long family friendly celebration rooted in sharing, learning, and creating. &nbsp;🌱🎨🎼 Food&nbsp;🌷 Live Music 🌷 FREE Face Painting 🌷 Kids Parade 🌷 Local Artists &amp; Businesses 🌷 Arts &amp; Crafts 🌷 Live Ladybug Release!&nbsp; This will be our 6th annual Ladybug Day, and we&#39;d love to have you and your loved ones celebrate with us! Take a stroll though this beautiful urban oasis and you will see why locals call it &ldquo;Rochester&rsquo;s backyard&rdquo;. The centerpiece of the gardens is its 60 rentable plots that are open to anyone interested in growing their own produce or flowers in an engaging community environment. Plots are available in several sizes (4&rsquo;x4&rsquo; 4&lsquo;x12&rsquo; and 12&lsquo;x12&rsquo;) and can be rented at low cost for an entire season. Complimenting the community plots are a variety of amenities, such as beautiful native perennial gardens, fruit trees, berry bushes, grape arbors and much more. About Upper Monroe Neighborhood Association (UMNA):The <a fr-original-style="" href="https://www.uppermonroe.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: initial; user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">Upper Monroe neighborhood</a> is comprised of nearly 800 parcels (approximately 1/2 single family homes; 1/2 multi-family properties with a small number of commercial &amp; mixed use properties) housing approximately 3,300 people within it&#39;s boundaries.&nbsp; Businesses and nonprofits in Upper Monroe are concentrated in two areas: along the Monroe Avenue Corridor and in <a fr-original-style="" href="https://culverroadarmory.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: initial; user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">The Armory on Culver Road</a>. The mobile lending library will help expand our existing tool shed location on University Ave and support people in the community who face transportation barriers accessing the 1,300+ inventory of tools and DIY workshops we offer to anyone in the Greater Rochester Area. Tools on Wheels: SEAC’s Mobile Tool Lending Library Ribbon Cutting

Mount Hope World Singers, in collaboration with visual artist Christine Banna and composer Logan Barrett, is thrilled to present The Hundred Windows, an immersive, multidisciplinary exploration of the senses featuring 12 choral works from around the globe, a quadraphonic electronic soundscape, and projected animations. Both the soundscape and projections will be live-mixed, making each performance unique. The show is inspired by the umwelt, a term coined in the 1930s by German biologist Jakob von Uexk&uuml;ll, and by Ed Yong&rsquo;s beautiful non-fiction book on this subject, An Immense World. An umwelt is the specific way in which organisms of a particular species perceive and experience the world, shaped by the capabilities of their sensory organs and perceptual systems.&nbsp; Senses featured in The Hundred Windows include sight, smell, touch, taste, hearing, echolocation, electroreception, magnetoreception, nociception (pain), proprioception (self in space), thermoreception (heat/cold), equilibrioception (balance), and extrasensory perception (ESP).&nbsp; The Hundred Windows features choral works from Malaysia, Haiti, South Africa, Norway, Brazil, Ireland, Australia, China, Ecuador, the United States, Canada, and the Ute people; the languages the chorus will be singing in include Malaysian, Haitian Creole, Xhosa, Portuguese, Mandarin, and Latin. Two of the songs are in untranslated indigenous languages, two feature neutral syllables in lieu of words, and two are in English. The song order is programmed to form a figurative ouroboros (the snake that eats its own tail), symbolizing a cycle through birth, life, death, and rebirth, and referencing the circular nature of our sensory bubbles. The set for The Hundred Windows was created in reference to a metaphor offered by Jakob von Uexk&uuml;ll in his original monograph. This metaphor describes our consciousness as a house filled with windows, overlooking a garden which represents the wild and beautiful information of the universe around us. The way we construct and experience reality is dependent on what kind of windows we possess, how many there are, and how those windows interact. The performance will be ASL interpreted. There will be latex-free balloons available, enabling audience members to feel sonic vibrations with their hands, and an interactive Xbox controller that allows audience members to manipulate the post-show soundscape themselves. Feeling Your Way: Container Gardening

In "The Hundred Windows," Mount Hope World Singers (MHWS), visual artist and animator Christine A. Banna, and composer Logan Barrett present an immersive, multidisciplinary concert reflecting the vastness of the world we inhabit.  The program compares humans' sensory bubbles to those of other creatures, through not only our core five senses but also magnetoreception, echolocation, nociception, equilibrioception, thermoception, and electroreception—the latter represented by a new piece composed by MHWS Artistic Director Annika Bentley. Both Banna and Barrett will engage in live mixing during the performance, making it a truly one-of-a-kind event. A natural extension of MHWS's mission to build community and foster intercultural understanding through music performed in original languages from around the globe, this performance invites the audience to reexamine the layers of our lived experiences.

Rochester, NY 14623.&nbsp; The Invitational will run from August 21-23, 2026, which encompasses group training, a singles tournament, a doubles tournament, and an awards ceremony.
