Join SPJ DC Pro for a behind-the-scenes tour of Motherwell Distillery🥃.From the National Press Club in Washington to the Foreign Correspondents Club in Hong Kong and all places in between, journalists have always enjoyed a good drink after hours. Now you can learn how that drink is made.&nbsp;Join the DC SPJ Chapter Saturday, July 18 at 1:00 pm for a tour of Motherwell Distillery in Alexandria to see how Brickwater Bourbon is made.&nbsp;Along with the one-hour tour, we will enjoy samples of the distillery&rsquo;s product. Also, once you arrive at the distillery, you will learn about its connection with the general manager of an NPR station in Michigan. Besides honoring the best in area reporting, we will be inducting three new members into the Journalism Hall of Fame. We will also be presenting a fourth journalist with the Distinguished Service in Journalism Award&nbsp; New inductees to the Washington Journalism Hall of Fame:<ul fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;"><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Seth Borenstein, a Washington-based national science writer for The Associated Press.&nbsp;</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Kevin Naff, editor and co-owner of the Washington Blade.</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Cheryl W. Thompson, award-winning correspondent for National Public Radio.</li></ul>The 2026 Distinguished Service Award&nbsp;winner is Karen Attiah, a prize-winning journalist whose work examines the intersections of race, culture, gender, media and international affairs.&nbsp; Master of Ceremonies is Kojo Nnamdi, WAMU host of the weekly &quot;<a fr-original-style="" href="https://wamu.org/show/the-politics-hour/" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: initial; user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">Politics Hour</a>&quot; and Washington Journalism Hall of Fame member. Well, we are under siege, but that does not mean we have to be depressed.&nbsp;The Washington DC chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists is reviving an old tradition: The Newz Schmooze. Newz Schmooze Revitalized brings journalists and media professionals together for candid conversation, practical insight and real connection. Share what you&rsquo;re working on, compare notes on the beat, and trade ideas that strengthen your reporting. &nbsp;And maybe&nbsp;pass along a tip or two for possible work. This gathering reflects the core mission of the DC SPJ chapter: promoting a free press, ethical journalism and a building a strong community of reporters in the DMV region. At future gatherings we might be able to focus on a specific topic with a special guest. Let us know what you would like to talk about. Join us at the Ragtime Restaurant in Arlington, VA, just a few steps from the Courthouse Metro station on the Orange line. &nbsp;We will supply nibble food and non-alcoholic drinks.
