Squam Lakes Association

The Squam Lakes Association fosters a deep connection to nature through conservation, education, and recreation. They protect the Squam Lakes region while promoting outdoor experiences that inspire stewardship and appreciation for the environment.

Floating wetlands are platforms containing native plants that float on the water&#39;s surface. Their plants roots absorb excess nutrients, capture suspended solids, and provide habitat for beneficial microorganisms that help break down pollutants. These systems can improve water quality, enhance biodiversity, and strengthen shoreline resilience.&nbsp; Join Pollyanna for a hands-on workshop for Squam, Little Squam and White Oak Pond residents to learn how floating wetlands can improve water quality and support healthy aquatic ecosystems. Shorefront property owners are encouraged to participate, as each participant will take home a 4x3 foot floating wetland to install at their dock for the summer. Participation Fee:&nbsp;$50 per person (including all materials for your finished product!) Registration is limited to 10 Squam/ Little Squam / White Oak Pond participants. Build Your Own Floating Wetland- July 23

Join the Squam Lakes Association (SLA) on a pontoon boat tour in the morning to explore the lake, take reference photos, and do a plankton haul. We will then return to shore to examine the plankton haul in the water lab and examine the contents through a microscope, with a camera, projected onto a large screen. Next, we will have a lunch break, bring your own. Resources, including books, will be available to peruse during lunch. At 1:00 we will have an introduction to monoprint making and various tools used for this medium. You will sketch out your chosen subject matter before using pencils to incise (carve) images into foam with sharp pencils. We will then ink up our foam with water soluble, environmentally friendly ink and print on paper and canvases, one of each, so participants can leave with two pieces of artwork.
