The Borrowdale Institute

The Borrowdale Institute fosters community spirit through events, activities, and support for local initiatives, enhancing the quality of life in Borrowdale while promoting inclusivity and collaboration among residents.

The Borrowdale Institute needs a new roof - and we need your help to finish the job. For 106 years, The Borrowdale Institute in Rosthwaite has been the beating heart of our valley - the place for parish meetings, children's parties, WI gatherings, quiz nights, weddings, funerals, and everything in between. It's one of the few spaces in Borrowdale that belongs to everyone in the community. Right now, that roof is failing. Borrowdale weather has taken its toll - at the end of the day, this is the wettest inhabited valley in England, and 106 years of it have finally worn the roof beyond repair. It needs full replacement before further damage puts the building, and everyone who uses it, at risk. The total cost of the repair is £20,000. We're incredibly grateful that Cumberland Council has already awarded us a £5,000 grant towards the work. But there's a catch: we must complete the roof within 15 months, or we lose that funding. That means we need to raise the remaining £15,000 - and we need to do it quickly. Every pound raised here goes directly towards materials and labour for the new roof. Zeffy processes payments at no cost to us, so 100% of what you give goes towards keeping this building standing for the next 100 years. Please give what you can today - and please share this page with anyone who has ever set foot in The Borrowdale Institute. Thank you,Nigel DixonChair of Trustees, The Borrowdale InstituteRegistered Charity No. 1181396
