At The Underground PDX, we believe that real, lasting transformation begins when young people are surrounded by community, held to high standards, and given the dignity of an open door. That is why we launched UNDERGROUND WORKS, our on-site employment initiative modeled after Homeboy Industries. We don't just teach job readiness; we hire local youth and young adults directly within our organization. When they clock in, they earn an honest wage while receiving direct mentorship, accountability, and life-skills coaching from trusted leaders. The results speak for themselves:• Our jobs build better futures and keep kids off the streets.• Our jobs develop life skills, responsibility, and strong workplace habits.• Our jobs reward hard work and restore self-worth.• Our jobs are built on relationship—ensuring no young person walks alone.• Our jobs actively reduce violence and build safer, stronger neighborhoods. Now, it is time to expand this proven program to welcome more youth and young adults who are waiting for an opportunity.
