The Lines Between by the ViC Class of 2025/26

Join us for a staged reading of a new made-in-Manitoba play, presented in partnership between the Village Conservatory and the Manitoba Association of Playwrights In this absurd comedy, Rod is an earnest Ojibwe field officer working for Indian Affairs. In other words, he&rsquo;s like a grain of wheat between one enormous millstone called Canada and another called First Nations. Management is trying to break him. The Chief of Kishchee Nohttin (Big Wind) First Nation may be trying to kill him. And what might just be the biggest protest Canada has ever seen is brewing.&nbsp; Inspired by Jordan&rsquo;s nearly thirty-year career at Indian Affairs, Big Wind takes the audience beyond the headlines to enjoy an insider&rsquo;s satire about how government works in First Nation country. More like Producing 10-FUN! There&rsquo;s a lot that goes into making stuff happen: from budgeting, granting, contracting, project timelines, supporting production and artistic personnel - the list goes on! In this workshop, Tanner will share some tools, ideas, and stories from producing intimate performances to new large-scale productions. With some hands-on exercises, this workshop will endow you with skills to start getting your projects in motion: taking that inkling of a concept and journeying to find the way to make it happen.&nbsp;<h3 fr-original-style="white-space:pre-wrap;" style="white-space: pre-wrap; box-sizing: inherit;">ABOUT THE ARTIST</h3>Tanner Manson is a queer theatre/dance artist and arts/events manager based in Winnipeg, MB. He is passionate about nurturing relationships and long-term collaboration while creating new and exciting work.&nbsp; He is Co-Artistic Producer of One Trunk Theatre devising new work across the province and artistic disciplines. He has made some raucous work with Walk&amp;Talk and was the recipient of Prairie Theatre Exchange&rsquo;s Cherry Karpyshin Arts Management Prize in 2024. I work as an advocate for actors, a support for directors and the go to person on set for all departments, coordinating the specific needs of intimate scenes.&rdquo;&nbsp; In this workshop, Sharon will lead students through a series of consent-based exercises designed to empower performers in the rehearsal process and provide them with the tools to navigate intimate scenes within a professional setting, either in theatre or film.<h3 fr-original-style="white-space:pre-wrap;" style="white-space: pre-wrap; box-sizing: inherit;">ABOUT THE ARTIST</h3>Sharon is a certified Intimacy Director and Coordinator. She has worked on such projects as The Long Walk, Nobody 2, Love Hurts, Altar, Psycho Killer, Suitcase 8, The Holiday Shift, Don&rsquo;t Even, Malgre Moi, El Toro, Winner, Little Bird, The Porter, Skymed, Alter Boys, Wintertide,&nbsp;as well as many others.
