TriState Deaf School for Theology empowers Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals through accessible theological education. We offer courses in American Sign Language, fostering understanding of biblical texts and promoting spiritual growth within the community.

📚 Join Our Fall 2026 Online Course: Introduction to the Old Testament This online course is taught by Dr. Kent R. Oviatt, EdD in sign language and is designed specifically for Deaf and hard-of-hearing learners who want a clear, accessible overview of Old Testament history, key people, and major themes. Course Description This course introduces students to the structure, content, and message of the Old Testament. Emphasis is placed on understanding the Old Testament as one unified story, moving from Creation to Exile and Restoration. Students will explore the historical background, major biblical figures, and important theological themes such as covenant, sin, leadership, judgment, and restoration. The course is designed specifically for Deaf and hard-of-hearing learners. Instruction includes ASL-supported content, visual organization, simplified academic English, and opportunities for students to demonstrate understanding through either written responses or ASL-based presentations. Course Schedule Introduction Meeting📅 Sunday Afternoon &ndash; August 16, 2026 meeting is 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM on Zoom Class Schedule📅 Classes begin August 17, 2026🕖 Every Monday, 7:00 PM &ndash; 9:00 PM 📅 Last Day of Class: November 30, 2026 All classes will be conducted through Zoom. Our TriState Webmaster will send the Zoom link and login information for each class. Course Objectives By the end of this course, students will be able to:&bull; Explain the overall storyline of the Old Testament (Creation &rarr; Fall &rarr; Nation &rarr; Kingdom &rarr; Exile &rarr; Return)&bull; Identify key people, events, and major time periods in the Old Testament&bull; Describe important theological themes such as covenant, law, leadership, judgment, and restoration&bull; Demonstrate understanding of historical context using timelines and structured summaries&bull; Communicate biblical concepts clearly through written English or ASL presentations&bull; Apply Old Testament principles to faith and daily life in meaningful ways Registration InformationThis course is registered through Zeffy, a nonprofit fundraising platform that provides free registration services to organizations.
