The Playdate Trio: Marla Fibish, Rebecca Richman, and Lewis Santer The Playdate Trio weaves together mandolin, fiddle, and bouzouki into something greater than the sum of its parts&mdash;locked-in, interwoven, and full of joyful mischief. Marla&rsquo;s mandolin and mandola, Rebecca&rsquo;s fiddle and concertina, and Lewis&rsquo;s artful bouzouki and guitar, create a sound built on deep listening and shared musical intuition. Rooted in Irish traditional music, they also bring life to original tunes from Marla and their tunesmith friends, along with threads from other traditional styles. All three are accomplished musicians in their own right. Marla has cultivated a thriving community of mandolin students. Rebecca draws on her music studies at Mills College and years of teaching experience. Lewis is a master luthier who has been building and repairing acoustic instruments since 1986, and has played in traditional Irish bands for decades.

Klezmer, Balkan, and Urban Chanson, with a dash of Ukrainian Folk and powered by rocket fuel, Kommuna Lux impacts the crowd with a nostalgic, high-energy Big Band sound from the bygone days of speakeasies and rum runners. When Volodymyr Gitin raises that clarinet to his lips, he becomes the only man in the room&mdash;you can&rsquo;t help but utterly fall into his virtuoso arms. &ldquo;Heavyweight Champion&rdquo; Oleg Vasianovich holds his accordion like it&rsquo;s light as a feather, while he develops the foundation of each melody. Layers of complexity are added by the bold, bright trumpet of Andrei Okhramovich and the sassy, playful trombone of Yaroslav Besh. Viktor Kirilov never stops dancing as he plays his acoustic guitar, and you never know when Sergei Poltorak will pause on the percussion to punk the rest of the band with a sly prank. At center stage is sultry powerhouse Bagrat Tsurkan, whose hot buttered voice and nonstop energy compel everyone to the dance floor.&nbsp;

Kommuna Lux from Ukraine

Multi-instrumentalist Tristan Clarridge is a 5-time Grand National Fiddle Champion and a pioneering cellist, synthesizing traditional folk influences with rhythmic vocabulary from jazz, rock and pop music, and leading a revolution among adventurous young cellists throughout the country. He has toured the world with bluegrass/nu-folk sensation Crooked Still and Darol Anger&rsquo;s Republic of Strings, as well as Mike Marshall, Bruce Molsky and Cape Breton fiddle phenomenon Natalie MacMaster. Hammer dulcimer virtuoso Simon Chrisman brings a whole new approach to an instrument that has previously been thought to have limited range and technique. His inventive virtuosic touch and sophisticated rhythmic sensibilities are redefining the instrument and earning the attention of musicians from all over the world. Together, they weave a tapestry of sound all their own, drawing on roots in bluegrass, Celtic, jazz and old-time traditions. While today&rsquo;s new breed often produces an amalgamation of sounds and styles based on a distant view. They were raised embedded in these traditions&hellip; raised to mold, meld, shape them and carry them forward, leaving their own indelible marks in the process. Shanna&nbsp;in a Dress was pronounced the winner of the Rocky Mountain Folks Fest Songwriting Contest and will be performing with a full band at the 2023 Rocky Mountain Folks Fest. In 2020 alone,&nbsp;Shanna&nbsp;was a winner in the Kerrville New Folk competition, winner of the Great River Folk Fest Song Competition, a finalist at Songwriter Serenade, and a Grassy Hill Emerging Artist at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival.&nbsp;During the summer of 2021,&nbsp;Shanna&nbsp;bicycled from Seattle to Boston while music-touring on her epic &quot;Tour de Dress,&quot; playing over 60 shows from coast to coast and partnering up with the global non-profit Pangaea World Foundation.&nbsp;In May 2022, her debut record &quot;Robot&quot; was released after a wildly successful crowdfunded campaign years earlier. She was the winner She has most recently been seen gracing the stages of Kerrville Folk Festival, Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, Black Bear Americana Fest, Great River Folk Fest, and the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville. Tom Prasada-Rao called her &quot;Kerrville&#39;s fastest rising star&quot; and she&#39;s certainly delightfully unique and is one to watch in the future.

Ken Waldman has drawn on his 30 years in Alaska to produce poems, stories, and fiddle tunes that combine into a performance uniquely his. A former college professor, Waldman has had published six full-length poetry collections, a memoir, a children&rsquo;s book, and has released nine CDs that mix old-time Appalachian-style string-band music with original poetry. Since 1995 he&rsquo;s toured full-time, performing at some of the nation&rsquo;s leading universities, festivals, arts centers, and clubs. His most recent books are the memoir, Are You Famous? which chronicles Waldman&rsquo;s adventures on tour throughout the United States, and D is for Dog Team (Nomadic Press, 2009), a sequence of Alaska-set acrostic poems for young readers. Nashville Scene has called the memoir, &ldquo;a travel guide for aspiring free spirits.&rdquo; The University of Alaska Press, which distributes the children&rsquo;s book, says D is for Dog Team is destined to &ldquo;be a fireside treasure for the whole family.&rdquo;

Jim Page is an American singer and songwriter living in Seattle, Washington. He&rsquo;s made 24 full length albums, been on a dozen compilations, done numberless tours, and written hundreds of songs. Some of them have been covered by Christy Moore, Dick Gaughan, Roy Bailey, The Doobie Brothers, and Michael Hedges. He&rsquo;s toured with Dick Gaughan, Planxty, Leftover Salmon, and Rob Wasserman. He&rsquo;s shared the stage with Bonnie Raitt, Donal Lunny, Barry Melton, Robert Hunter, and Bj&ouml;rn Afzelius. He sings of politics and romance, adventure and comedy, tragedy, history, and meditations on life, death and the absurd. His improvisations are legendary, and if there&rsquo;s anything to talk about that he hasn&rsquo;t sung about it&rsquo;s just that he was too busy singing about something else. Jim was born in the lower Bay Area of California, growing into the great renaissance of the 1960s, when all the arts were mixed together, the music, the theater, the poetry and politics. His home turf was the same place that gave birth to such bands as Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead. The border between the folk song and the rock band was blurred in those days and you can still hear it in his music, in his choice of subject matter, use of imagery, rhythm and phrasing.

Midnight Jasmine is Damian Lester, Ellen Curry, and Tim Chinnock. Sprouted in the sands of Joshua Tree, California, the trio brings their no-frills authenticity to tunes that embody complexity within simplicity. Their sound is something like a cross-pollination of early Gregory Alan Isakov and an acoustic version of Low. With spacious rhythms that carry an effortless groove, and three voices that seem to come from one, their songs reflect the trio&rsquo;s connection with nature, exploring themes of awakening to love and the inner human experience.

Niki Leeman, longtime favorite at Texas&rsquo; annual Kerrville Folk Festival, recently moved to Eugene, OR. With a reputation for thought-provoking lyrical poetry, Niki&rsquo;s songs capture the heart and soul, and remain long after a first listen. Sprig of That is a tabla, fiddle, cello, and guitar quartet playing a hearty Midwest-raised and globally inspired acoustic stew. Pushed by producer Jayme Stone, the band stakes new sonic terrain for itself on Foragers, their upcoming full-length featuring guest appearances by Sierra Hull, Olov Johansson (V&auml;sen), Simon Chrisman, Rohith Jayaraman, and Wes Corbett (who produced their 2023 release bloom). Formed in Minneapolis, MN in 2018, the group has played legendary venues from Portland&rsquo;s Old Church Minneapolis&rsquo; Cedar Cultural Center and NYC&rsquo;s Rockwood Music Hall; warmed up stages for artists like Chris Eldridge/Kristen Andriessen, the Andrew Marlin String Band, and Charlie Parr; performed at festivals like Pickathon and Blue Ox; and collaborated with organizations like Carnegie Hall and Minnesota Public Radio to give educational workshops across the country.

Turning Tides Music Festival 2026

D-Squared weaves a tonal fabric of poignant lyrics, earth-rooted melodies and stark, hypnotic rhythms. When Deb&rsquo;s beguilingly voice meets Don&rsquo;s dark baritone the effect can be mesmerizing. We are natural storytellers and attending a show is akin to joining a gathering of friends around the kitchen table. The blending of harp and guitar in delicate counterpoint, and the use of other traditional folk instruments (accordions, banjo, concertina, and mandola) leads the listener through a lyrical landscape that bears witness to darkness and danger, but offers redemption and hope in return.

D-Squared in Concert

For more than five decades, Bryan Bowers has been to the autoharp what Earl Scruggs was to the five-string banjo. He presents instrumental virtuosity combined with warmth, eloquence, expression, and professionalism. From his rather unglamorous beginning as a street singer, Bryan has become a major artist on the traditional music circuit. He has redefined the autoharp and is also well known as a singer-songwriter with a dynamic and outgoing personality as well as an uncanny ability to enchant a crowd.

Growing up, Joe Newberry and April Verch absorbed traditions of home and hearth &ndash; in his Missouri Ozarks and her Ottawa Valley of Canada. Although they are on the road much of the year, the two musicians are fond of saying that they are rarely homesick, because their music means they always have a bit of home with them wherever they go. Whether it is the power of two voices lifted in harmony, or the sound of traditional tunes calling people to get up and move, these two masters of tradition put on an unforgettable show. And, when their feet kick up the dust in perfect rhythm and those two voices become one, Newberry &amp; Verch help remind folks why this music existed in the first place.

Portland, Oregon folk artist Jeffrey Martin has announced his first-ever live album, Alive July 25, 2025, which is set to release on February 20, 2026 via Fluff &amp; Gravy Records (Anna Tivel, Margo Cilker, Kassi Valazza). The album was recorded at Portland&rsquo;s The Showdown and presents an unabridged take of the night exactly as it unfolded &mdash; whatever mistakes may have occurred, whatever musical wanderings &mdash; in the hopes that the magic of the live show could be captured in an honest way. Of Alive July 25, 2025, Martin offers, &ldquo;The live show will always mean more to me than any studio recordings. Every night is different and will never exist again. The character of the room, the energy of the crowd, the moments between songs, wherever my mind and heart and voice are at &ndash; it all mixes together to create something new and ephemeral each night. I wanted to capture a single show, no edits, no reordering of songs, no compiling of takes from multiple shows. A record of a night in a documentary sense. I was so lucky to have Sam Weber join me on guitar. John McCutcheon

&ldquo;It&rsquo;s time to make a change,&rdquo; Robbie Fulks declares at the start of Now Then, his second album on Nashville&rsquo;s Compass Records. This statement is familiar to anyone who follows this critically acclaimed and GRAMMY-nominated singer-songwriter&rsquo;s career. Since emerging in the 1990s as a pioneer of today&rsquo;s Americana movement, Fulks has consistently explored different sounds, genres, and themes across 16 albums, performing on stages from the Grand Ole Opry and Late Night with Conan O&rsquo;Brien to the Hollywood Bowl and Jimmy Kimmel Live with Steve Martin, Alison Brown, and Tim O&rsquo;Brien.

Steve Poltz was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia (Canada) but has lived most of his life in Southern California. He is a dual citizen &ndash; Canada/USA &ndash; but has often said that, &ldquo;should a hostage situation arise, I become conveniently Canadian. &rdquo;Over the course of his life he&rsquo;s met Elvis Presley (who hugged his sister for far too long), trick or treated at Liberace&rsquo;s house (each finger had a diamond ring), was Bob Hope&rsquo;s favourite altar boy (according to him), pissed off David Cassidy and can count some of the world&rsquo;s coolest people as fans. In 20 years since his full-length solo debut, One Left Shoe, Steve Poltz blessed the world&rsquo;s ears with thirteen solo records, spanning the acclaimed 2010 Dreamhouse and most recently, Shine On in 2019. NPR summed it up best, &ldquo;Critics and fans alike now regard Poltz as a talented and prolific songwriter.&rdquo; Evoking themes of &ldquo;hope, love, contemplation, celebration of Wednesday, pharmacists, and the fact that windows are not inanimate objects and they sometimes have conversations with each other,&rdquo; Shine On represents Steve at his most inspired and insightful. The opener and title track pairs a delicate vocal with lithely plucked acoustic strings as he urges everyone to, &ldquo;Shine on, shine on.&rdquo;

Special guests will perform on Emma&rsquo;s Revolution&rsquo;s songs and, this year, Emma&rsquo;s Revolution will also perform on their guests&rsquo; songs. The concert is a fundraiser for the feature documentary being made by award-winning independent filmmaker, Tom Weidlinger, about the duo, their songs and their decades of work on the frontlines of peace and social justice movements.
