Urbanist Media

Urbanist Media preserves place through storytelling, focusing on the histories of Black and Brown communities. We aim to confront racialized systems of power and promote equity and justice through educational initiatives and community engagement.

🎉 We invite you to attend this hands-on community workshop (in Harlem, NYC) that examines how historic preservation can function as a tool for liberation, restorative action, and collective care. Participants will engage with place-based strategies for building and sustaining community archives, interpreting lived experience as historical evidence, and using storytelling to confront erasure, address historical trauma, and support healing. The workshop emphasizes history as an active, community-driven practice&mdash;one that affirms memory, honors lived knowledge, and contributes to more just and equitable futures.

This year, we will explore how racialized systems of power were constructed through law, violence, and dispossession. Grounded in historical truth-telling, these lectures invite us to consider what equity and justice require: not only remembering the past, but confronting how its legacies continue to shape our present. 🎉 Please note 📝: Some of the historical context discussed may be triggering, particularly content related to racial violence and oppression. We encourage attendees to care for themselves and one another throughout the series. Dr. Holly Y.
