A Ceremony of Carols

This April, Valley Festival Singers celebrates half a century of music making with a 50th Anniversary concert: &quot;This Is Our Story&quot;. The program will feature a variety of musical genres and styles to appeal to a wide range of audiences. We are also delighted to welcome a string quartet to share the stage with us.The first half of This Is Our Story will focus on our first fifty years, highlighting some of our favourite repertoire from seasons past. Selections from this half include&nbsp;Ave Maria, by Biebl,&nbsp;Cantique de Jean Racine&nbsp;by Faur&eacute;, Bach&rsquo;s famous motet,&nbsp;Jesu, meine Freude, which VFS sang at its very first concert in April 1976 &ndash; a special way to honour our origins and round out the first half of the program.After the intermission, we will direct our focus to the next 50 years! The music will be uplifting and inspirational, including&nbsp;Sogno di Volare&nbsp;by Christopher Tin and&nbsp;A World that Shimmers&nbsp;by Nicholas Ryan Kelly. It is our delight to welcome Joel Tranquilla, (VFS Music Director 2016-2023) back to the podium to honour the impact he had on the community and quality of the Valley Festival Singers.The program also features two choruses from Haydn&rsquo;s incredible oratorio&nbsp;The Creation. These choruses are a way of looking forward to our concert in April of 2027, where we will collaborate with Calvin Dyck and his orchestra to perform&nbsp;The Creation&nbsp;in its entirety!Valley Festival Singers is thriving and is committed to continuing our legacy of choral excellence in the Fraser Valley.Celebrate this special anniversary with us and enjoy the stellar musicianship of string quartet, Betty Suderman on piano, and the voices of the choir.
