Whiskered Away

Whiskered Away is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating stray and abandoned cats, providing them with medical care, foster homes, and forever families. Their mission is to alleviate the suffering of these animals and promote responsible pet ownership.

Many of the cats in our <a fr-original-style="" href="https://whiskeredawaywest-jyecd.wordpress.com/unique-cats/" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: currentcolor; user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">Perfectly Imperfect</a> program have disabilities, are seniors, or simply need a little extra patience to find the right home. They remind us every day that everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive. That same philosophy guides our rescue work. Many community cat caregivers and <a fr-original-style="" href="https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSewHtx6-8M-DtXtzIGHrnDrWC_RjtUrwSWMfDNKVJ44Poz56A/viewform" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: currentcolor; user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">volunteers</a> have physical limitations, and we&rsquo;re committed to making TNR more accessible by building a community Trap Library and investing in lighter, <a fr-original-style="" href="https://livetrap.com/index.php?dispatch=events.view&event_id=33" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: currentcolor; user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">easier-to-use humane traps and equipment</a>. These tools reduce physical strain, improve safety, and help more people participate in lifesaving rescue efforts. Accessibility Saves Lives Fund

A few days ago, George was found crying in a bush by one of our Team Members and brought to our vet to be neutered and vaccinated. We have since received some unexpected news: George has an inguinal hernia that requires surgery. Tuesday he&rsquo;ll be headed to Washington Animal Hospital for x-rays before returning to Forgotten Cats for his hernia repair. While we&rsquo;re incredibly grateful this was caught early, the unexpected veterinary bills just keep coming. George isn&rsquo;t our only medical case right now. We have another cutie scheduled for bloodwork next week, we have several dental procedures coming up, and we&rsquo;re continuing to provide care for cats with ongoing medical needs. As a small rescue, these expenses add up quickly, but we never want finances to be the reason a stray cat doesn&rsquo;t get the care they need. If you&rsquo;re able to make a donation, it will go directly toward George&rsquo;s diagnostics and surgery, as well as the ongoing medical care our other rescue cats need. If donating isn&rsquo;t possible right now, you can still make a huge difference by fostering George while he recovers &amp; looks for a forever home. He&rsquo;ll be on crate rest after surgery, and we&rsquo;ll provide the crate and all the supplies you&rsquo;ll need too. This gorgeous little gray boy has the softest coat with the faintest marbling and a motor that never stops once you&#39;re snugging him. He&rsquo;s an absolute purr machine and has already charmed everyone he&rsquo;s met. We were hoping for answers that would help him move forward with treatment, but instead we discovered yet another medical concern.In addition to his large inguinal hernia, George has a completely dislocated hip.Thankfully, his hernia isn&rsquo;t quite as urgent or dangerous as we initially feared. Because George&rsquo;s hernia is so large, his veterinary team has decided the best course of action is to address one issue at a time.George is now scheduled to return to Forgotten Cats next week for his hernia repair. Once he&rsquo;s fully recovered and his surgical site has healed, he&rsquo;ll be referred to Providence Animal Center for an FHO (Femoral Head Ostectomy) to repair his hip.Through it all, George continues to be the sweetest little kitten. He purrs through everything and has no idea how many people are rooting for him.While we&rsquo;re relieved to have a plan, George still has a long road ahead, and his medical expenses continue to grow.
