As Vancouver&rsquo;s first Indigenous Relations Manager, she led the city&rsquo;s emergence as the world&rsquo;s first City of Reconciliation. Her award-winning work includes leading the Environics Urban Aboriginal Peoples Study, which influenced national policy and public opinion. She is the first Indigenous Fellow at SFU&rsquo;s Centre for Dialogue, focusing on Decolonization and Urban Indigenous Policy and Planning. A published writer, TEDx speaker, and frequent media commentator on BC politics, Ginger has been named one of BC&rsquo;s most influential business leaders and one of Vancouver&rsquo;s most powerful people. She has a Master&rsquo;s degree in urban Geography from UBC and she is Associate Professor of Professional Practice at SFU Urban Studies. She was proud to be part of the team who created the Vancouver UNDRIP Strategy in 2022. The Power of Her: Women in Leadership Panel Discussion

One of the latest avenues to help tackle the current housing crisis is the recently introduced 2024 BCBC revision that enables the construction of single exit stair residential buildings greater than 2 storeys. For decades the two exit stair code requirement has resulted in the ubiquitous double loaded corridor apartment design all over the country. The change is intended to increase flexibility in design to allow projects on smaller lots and in different configurations. Join us for a discussion on the technical requirements, design opportunities and challenges of this recent code change, and what they could mean for the housing crisis. This session will include an overview of the new technical requirements and mitigating features that will allow buildings up to 6 storeys to have a single exit stair. Followed by a discussion of the architectural opportunities this code change will enable for housing design. Join us on September 18th for a virtual presentation of&nbsp;the Ch&rsquo;ich&rsquo;iy&uacute;y Elxw&iacute;kn Affordable Leasehold Homeownership Project, a 140k ft2 development by the Aboriginal Land Trust in Vancouver. The project offers an opportunity to explore how meaningful consultation, collaboration, and architectural design can contribute to reconciliation in action. Guided by Indigenous protocols and shaped in collaboration with Knowledge Keepers and community partners, the project honours the histories and stories of the three Host Nations. Architect Abigail Tosto will share the story of the project and discuss how genuine Indigenous partnership has informed its development&mdash;from early engagement and visioning through design and construction. Participants will also learn about the roles of the Architect and Prime Consultant in bringing the project to life. Abigail Tosto is an Architect AIBC and Certified Passive House Designer with over 10 years of experience creating sustainable, inclusive, and community-focused architecture.&nbsp; Ticket prices: &nbsp;$10 &ndash; Online presentation 50% of all proceeds will be donated to the Aboriginal Land Trust.
