The Pro-Housing Lab: Chicago is a one-day regional convention bringing together approximately 100 YIMBY Action members, chapter leaders, and housing advocates from across Illinois on Friday, July 24, 2026.&nbsp;The day combines policy education on key state legislation with hands-on organizing and advocacy training, so attendees walk away with real skills, real deliverables, and a clear plan for what comes next. The Pro-Housing Lab: Chicago

For our next joint urbanist happy hour, we&rsquo;ll be featuring YIMBY Denver&rsquo;s top priority this year, Denver&rsquo;s Unlocking Housing Choices policy initiative. This event will serve as our first member event kicking off our work to pass this critical initiative to reintroduce middle housing (housescale multifamily housing, cottage courts, backyard starter homes, etc.) to our city. Urbanist Happy Hour: Unlocking Housing Choices

The next AHIL Legislation Lab is having its next meeting on Monday, at 6:00 p.m., we will hold a virtual meeting to go over specific tricks for writing law in the State of Illinois and the City of Chicago from volunteers with experience writing ordinances. We highly encourage anyone who thinks they&rsquo;re interested in the Legislation Lab to attend. This is the big chance to acquire the specific skills that will let you move from subject matter expert to someone who can offer a lot to state and local leaders. Legislation Lab's Law-Writing Crash Course

Abundant Housing Illinois is launching Legislative Lab. This is our new initiative where we draft legislation for state and local lawmakers to champion. At this kickoff session, we&rsquo;ll introduce the Legislative Lab, walk through how it works, and get into the weeds on what we want to tackle first. Bring your policy ideas, your frustrations with the status quo, and your opinions. We are looking for anyone who loves to write, who loves to edit, and those who love to dream of what we can accomplish. Join Abundant Housing Illinois for our monthly happy hour on the patio at Beard &amp; Belly (6157 N Broadway) on Tuesday, October 7 &mdash; this month doubling as a fundraiser for Alderwoman Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth, who represents the 48th Ward and is an AHIL endorsee for reelection. Leni will be there to meet folks and talk about what a pro-housing agenda looks like at the ward and City level. She passed the Green Social Housing ordinance, upzoned Broadway for transit-oriented development &mdash; the very street we&#39;ll be drinking on &mdash; and is a true YIMBY champion on City Council. The rest is what our happy hours always are: casual, no agenda, a good way to meet the people doing housing work in Chicago.
