Mutton busting is a lighthearted and enjoyable rodeo event that allows young children to experience the thrill of riding without the extreme danger associated with bull riding. It's a favorite among families and spectators at rodeo events, and it provides young riders with a memorable and fun experience. Participant Age: Any child under the age of 10 and 65lbs or less may participate.  Children 3 and  under will receive full assistance and have a handler with them the entire ride. Older children will be able to ride unassisted with handlers close by. The Sheep: In mutton busting, young participants ride sheep instead of bulls. The sheep used for this event are usually small to medium-sized, and they are generally gentle and well-trained to ensure the safety of the riders. Riding Gear: Riders are not required to wear vest or helmet but you are welcome to bring it with them if they have any. Helmets are not provided but are encouraged. Bicycle or football helmets work great! Make sure the helmet is not too large for the child. Closed-toed shoes and long pants are required for each rider.     Objective: The objective of mutton busting is for the young rider to stay on the back of the sheep for as long as possible. The goal is not to ride for a specific amount of time but rather to see who can hold on the longest. The ride typically lasts a few seconds, as the sheep will try to buck the rider off.
