Cross Border Conservation Workshop
Free
Monday, October 24th, 8:30-11:30 "Securing Important Conservation Properties Owned by U.S. Taxpayers" with : Allen Campbell, Partner, Real Estate and Property Team, Boyne Clarke LLP, Halifax, NS ; Kaz Nesbitt, Senior Manager, Income Tax Group, Grant Thornton, LLP, Peterborough, ON ; Bonnie Sutherland, Executive Director, The Nova Scotia Nature Trust, Dartmouth, NS ; Sandra Tassel, Program Coordinator, American Friends of Canadian Conservation, Bellingham WA USA. Description : U.S. taxpayers own properties that are a high priority for conservation in many provinces. This three-hour interactive workshop will provide practitioners with the knowledge to protect those Canadian lands. Productive conversations with U.S. taxpayers require you to have a basic understanding of the bi-national tax incentives available, and when to use them. Families are evaluating the future of their Canadian properties now, so there is limited time to prevent lands from being sold to pay Canadian capital gains taxes. This session will also be valuable for lawyers, accountants, estate planners and real estate agents with U.S. clients. Learn about the cross-border tax issues and potential benefits to your clients who own environmentally sensitive Canadian properties.
