This training will explore Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) and how it can affect children in Preschool and Childcare settings.  We will start with exploring the eight senses of our body and the information they give us about the world around us.  We will learn what it looks like when those senses experience processing issues.  Next, we move to a description of the six types of SPD and how they may present in the children we work with.  As part of that discussion we will explore what the role of the teacher or provider is in identifying SPD and what steps can be taken if you suspect a child may need to be evaluated.  Once we have a good grasp on what SPD is and how to identify it, we will move on to how to adapt our spaces to be more sensory friendly.  Demonstrations and hands on examples of adaptations for the classroom and for the individual will be given based on helping each of the types of SPD.  Participants will walk away with an understanding of SPD and have practical adaptations available for them to implement in their setting to improve the sensory experience of child with SPD.
