New YLT Attendees

VMW offers a new program to meet the leadership needs of children of colour, led by Muslim women who are predominantly women of colour and local leaders in various industries in BC. The Young Leaders of Today (YLT) program is designed to provide children aged 10-16 with leadership training which focuses on self-knowledge, self-awareness, confidence skill building, representation and leadership styles.  The year long program consists of four sessions which are 3 hours long and focuses on a different leadership development theme each session:  1. Know the Leader within you (understanding your personal skills, talents, values and passions and being able to translate them into ways of serving others) 2. Understanding Leadership (examining leadership styles such as transformational vs transactional leadership) and recognizing leaders in our lives 3. Representation and Role-Modeling (how to prepare for a mentorship program and feeling confident as a mentee) 4. Leadership Biases & Positionality (recognizing leadership biases against women leaders and learning how to navigate them successfully. Learning concepts such as glass ceilings, glass labyrinths and more) Each session will have a 30-45 minute mini Panel of local BC students and university Alumna.
