Alison will lead participants in creating unique paintings inspired by traditional kurbit (floral) and bonader (figurative) paintings from central and southern Sweden.   Participants will gain an understanding of the history and significance of Swedish folk painting in Minnesota today. New skills in reinterpreting traditional designs into a contemporary context , using your own palette, and creating an individualized painting. Students are welcome to bring in examples of Swedish folk designs or motifs. <a href="http://spiritofthelakearts.org" target="_blank">Spirit of the Lake Community Arts</a>Two Sundays - Sept. 22nd and Sept. 29th 9:00am - 4:00pm $200 per student, all supplies includedOptional: bring your favorite paint brushes and smocks/apronsIntergenerational! Recommended for Middle School Age to Senior Citizen <a href="https://www.nordiccenterduluth.org/exhibitions/minnesota-swedish-folk-paintings/" target="_blank">Check out Alison's current exhibition of Swedish Folk Painting at the Nordic Center!</a> About your instructor: Alison Aune received a B.F.A. from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1981and spent her junior year at Östa Grevie Folkhögskola in Sweden. She received her M.A. from the University of Minnesota Duluth in 1987, and a Ph.D. from Ohio University Athens in 2000 with one year as an exchange student at the University of Trondheim Norway. She served as education coordinator at the Tweed Museum of Art from 1991 to 1999 before joining the UMD Department of Art and Design as a professor of art education. Alison's Nordic inspired paintings have been exhibited nationally and internationally  including the American Swedish Institute and Norway House in Minneapolis, Gammelgården in Scandia, Vesterheim Norwegian Museum in Decorah Iowa, the Swedish American Museum in Chicago and the Scandinavian Cultural Center in Tacoma, Washington (2010). She exhibited her Nordic Mandalas and Floral Icon paintings at Sahlströmsgården (2013), Torsby, and Lessebo, Samlargrafik, Kristianstad-Fjallkinge and Växjö Stadsbibliotek Sweden (2009). Her work has also been exhibited in Denmark, Norway, Italy, and Estonia.
