In Celebration of 2025 African American Heritage Month, you are cordially invited to attend an Afternoon of African American Authors with hosts Mayor of Los Angeles Karen Bass; Dr. Lura Daniels-Ball, President, Our Authors Study Club, Inc.; Cynthia E. Exum, Executive Director, Leimert Village Park Book Fair, City of Los Angeles City Council the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA); Yvonne Wheeler, President of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, General Chair, John F. Szabo, City Librarian, and Changing Tones - Los Angeles Public Library Advisory Committee. This literary event will take place at the downtown Los Angeles Public Central Library in the beautiful Mark Taper Auditorium on Saturday, February 8, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, spotlighting Emmy and Tony Award-winning actor Courtney B. Vance, author of “The Invisible Ache: Black Men Identifying their Pain and Reclaiming Their Power.”  In this new book, Vance explores issues of grief, relationships, identity, and race by sharing his most formative experiences. Written with the professional expertise of famed psychologist Dr. Robin L. Smith (popularly known as “Dr. Robin”), the publication is a unique combination of moving memoir and practical tools that offer guidance for Black men seeking to reclaim their mental well-being and live wholeheartedly. William Allen, an actor, director, and philanthropist who has starred in over 100 television, stage, and film projects, including two Academy Award-nominated films, A Soldiers Story and District 9, will moderate the event..  Mr. Vance and Mr. Young will receive the 2025 OASC Living Legend Awards to honor their exemplary life’s work, community leadership, and personal philanthropy. The program will also feature a tribute to the late esteemed American poet, writer, commentator, activist, and educator Nikki Giovanni.
