A Note from the CuratorThe artists in this exhibition create spectacularly audacious artworks using their chosen medium and independent visual languages. &nbsp;Through their stylistic choices, humor, subject matter, and more, their artworks visually deviate from all stereotyped cliches within traditional cultural art settings.&nbsp; These artists have been Sondheim Prize winners and finalists, Rubys Grant awardees, have exhibited in museums and commercial NYC galleries, had their movies or videos shown in national and international film fests, and/or are emerging artists that just make cool AF work that I love and want to support. These artists were invited not because of their merits, but based especially to fulfill my curatorial vision/desire to subvert and break the orientalist gaze of what may come to mind as &ldquo;art created by Asians,&rdquo; by showcasing works that may or may not be directly about identity created in very unassuming ways.&nbsp; *** Asia North&nbsp;honors the rich history of the Charles North neighborhood, once home to a thriving Koreatown, and celebrates the continued diversity and cultural richness of the area.
