Board of Education Supreme Court decision that outlawed segregation in public schools. The ruling had a direct, far-reaching impact on equality in education, and because The Future is US was created to promote equality and equity in Galveston’s education system, we are particularly excited about this anniversary. On Saturday, May 18, 2024, The Future is US is hosting a celebration to commemorate the Brown v. Board decision.  The Future is US exists to fight for Galveston youth through community voice so future generations can meet their full potential. Specifically, The Future is US is charged with dismantling the school-to-prison pipeline in the Galveston Independent School District by addressing disproportionate classroom removals. Yes, this is a major undertaking, and we cannot do it alone! Furthermore, we would not be able to do the work we do without the trailblazers before us. At this inaugural celebration, we will honor the legacies of Sue Johnson, The Collins Family, Galveston’sNAACP, and Tammie Campbell. Each honoree will receive The Future is US and ($25,000 sponsor)Education Justice Warrior Award for their histories of fighting for equal rights, within Galveston schoolsand beyond. <span fr-original-style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Helvetica; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;" style="font-size:14px;font-family:Helvetica;color:rgb(0, 0, 0);background-color:transparent;font-weight:400;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap;box-sizing:inherit">The Future is US works to continue the work of the Brown v. Board of Education decision focusing on community voice and leadership. As such this celebration will be a free ticketed event and open to the public. Due to limited space however, we are asking for people to "purchase" a free ticket beforehand.  We look forward to celebrating this historic event and the trailblazers that have continued the work!
