Colonial Cocktails brings early drinking culture in British North America to life through conversation and mixology! Our program is designed around a specific type of alcohol that was consumed in the 18th and 19th centuries in America. We will discuss the brews and spirits that were popular with all walks of life, and how they were produced, purchased, and consumed. Along the way, we'll have a mixology class of historic drink recipes, and a sample tasting of at least two different colonial cocktails. If you've ever wondered about leisure activities of early Americans, and have an adventurous spirit for spirits - this is the event for you! Our program will feature guest speaker/presenter Carin Bloom, a history and museums professional with education and experience in historical archaeology of the American Revolution. This special presentation will spotlight the history of three cocktails that date back to the 18th century Colonial era in America -- Rum Punch (Thomas Middleton’s Rum Punch), Stone Fence and Rattleskull. Each will use a different type of rum, which our speaker will highlight due to its long history of connection with Charleston and with the Caribbean, particularly Barbados. In addition to sampling the featured cocktails, each participant will receive a printed cocktail book with the recipes, and a spot for notes! "The Ruins" Community Clubhouse is located at 454 Royal Assembly Drive, Charleston, inside the gated community of Beresford Hall off Clements Ferry Road on the Cainhoy Peninsula. We will provide gate information once we get closer to the event.  NOTE: This event is a fundraiser for the Daniel Island Historical Society and will help support our mission and outreach programs, such as our historical markers, cemetery preservation efforts, educational outreach to local schools, historical research, and more! Tickets are $55 per person or $100 per couple. Limited seating available.
