I am currently working towards the rank of Eagle Scout, which is the highest achievement in Scouting, and in order to obtain it, I need to complete a service project that benefits my community.  <span fr-original-style="font-size:11pt;font-family:Montserrat,sans-serif;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-weight:400;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre;white-space:pre-wrap;" style="font-size:11pt;font-family:Montserrat, sans-serif;color:rgb(0, 0, 0);background-color:transparent;font-weight:400;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap;box-sizing:inherit">My project consists of building raised garden beds and improving the garden area for the Downers Grove Museum in Downers Grove, Illinois. The garden has not been well-maintained since COVID occurred, and there is also an infestation of Asian jumping worms, which is an invasive species that disturbs the soil and destroys plant roots. The garden area is important because it educates visitors, including children who come by during park district programs, about gardening and caring for plants. The fresh fruits and vegetables that are grown are also donated to local food pantries. My project will greatly improve the garden area to protect against the spread of invasive species and make the garden more productive.
