Room 2 – In creating this canvas, we explored the idea that art doesn’t have to be perfect to be meaningful. Students were encouraged to try new things, take risks, and enjoy the process of making art without worrying about how it would turn out. Using colour, texture, and movement, they created pieces that reflected their thoughts and feelings in creative and personal ways.

"Dollhouse" Lake Bonavista School Room 3 (Grade 3/4) - Link This dollhouse was painted collaboratively by the students of Room 3. Everybody got a turn to paint. It was our first time using paint rollers. It was hard to paint the window frames, shingles, and door details. We decided to keep the colours simple, in case its future owner wants to paint it differently. This house is lightweight and easy to transport – it even has a handle – so you can take it with you and play with it anywhere.

"Ripped Paper Landscape" Lake Bonavista School Room 7 (Grade 5/6) - Burnham Watercolor landscape ripped paper art is a captivating and imaginative artistic technique that combines the delicate fluidity of watercolor painting with the bold, textured look of torn paper. This mixed-media approach allowed the students to create vibrant, dynamic landscapes while exploring the beauty of contrasts between smooth, painted surfaces and rough, torn edges. The process began with the creation of a watercolor landscape, where students used various hues to paint elements like skies, mountains, fields, rivers, or forests. The soft, blended colors of the watercolor paint capture the natural beauty and flow of the environment. The torn paper adds a three-dimensional effect, providing depth and dimension to the artwork, and students collaborated to experiment with colors, shapes, and textures while tearing paper and creating their own landscape stories. Each frame measures 14” x 14” (3 in total)

Our Home Room 14 had a wonderful and exciting opportunity to collaborate with local artist Dean Stanton—who you might recognize as the talent behind the vibrant mural at Sunalta School! Together, we worked on a special art project that celebrates who we are as a class, our community, and the city of Calgary. We began by brainstorming meaningful landmarks and symbols that represent us, such as the iconic Wonderland Sculpture at the Bow Tower, the Calgary Flames logo, and even a nod to our national sport, lacrosse. Our whole class came together to bring it to life with paint. It was a truly creative and memorable experience for everyone!

Circles of Magic Many circles, all of them painted by students with different hobbies, talents, and backgrounds. A singular circle wouldn’t impress you but when they come together, magic ignites - making you feel content and untroubled. That’s how our class feels when we’re together; every single one of us is unique and different, some have quiet confidence, while some are an open book. Growing this community has encountered many mountains and required detours, but we always crash through the walls and continue making magic together. Our painting represents us by showing that the circles have no ending and we will continue to create magic, whether we are together or apart.

The Budgie Wool Yarn Fiber Framed Art 11” x 14” The Budgie This Budgie represents the love and respect of pets and animals. We chose a Budgie because it shows the peace animals bring to humanity. Splash Dancing To make this abstract collaborative art piece we poured paint into spray bottles and syringes and splashed multiple colors onto the turquoise canvas. Each student got to showcase their individuality and creativity by picking their own choice of colour and how they wanted to spray it. The room got covered with paint as we took turns showering the humongous painting with fun, positivity and amusement! Here’s some of the things we enjoyed about this art piece: the big splashes of dark blue, the red patch of paint that looks like a question mark, how the orange drips, the bright cyan splatter that draws your eye to the center, and how the multitude of colours all join together to make one unique painting. It makes us feel happy and bright because of the multiple colors, we feel like we are doing an eye spy for pictures within the painting when looking at it, and it brings us energy because it's so bright and colorful. We hope you love it as much as we have loved making it.
