Spike Dupree. Ode to the Vulture. 2024. Mixed media on canvas, 12 IN. x 16 IN. About the piece: Inspired while the artist was watching a documentary about Alaska and survival in the Mountains. He wanted this piece to represent the varying feeling of man and nature. The hardest part was to find a medium that could convey that; until, he found that the thickness and versatility of the pumice gel allowed him to use layering and various techniques to mimic the shape and form of a mountain range. Finally, the overwhelming repetitiveness of the alphabet consuming the negative space of this piece represents the seemingly endless day-to-day loop of life. Donated by artist.
