The Powder Puff Derby is an annual event in which Girl Scouts customize wooden cars and race them down a gravity-driven track.  Craft your sleek, stylish cars and let them loose on the track. Feel the excitement as they zoom towards the finish line, fueled by creativity and teamwork. It's a high-speed showdown you won't want to miss! Check in for this event will begin at noon, and races will begin at 12:30 pm. Car specifications and race rules will be outlined in the confirmation email.  To receive your car kit, your troop leader can pick it up at the March Service Unit Meeting and deliver at your next troop meeting.  If your troop leader is unable to retrieve it from a Service Unit Meeting, you may pick it up at a private residence in La Vergne.  Details in the confirmation email. Before you get started, here are a couple of rules:  Car Block and Dimension Rules<ul><li style="box-sizing:inherit">The provided pine wood block must be used. The block may be shaped in any way that is desired. Creativity is encouraged!</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">The overall length of the car shall not exceed 7 inches.</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">The overall width of the car shall not exceed 2 ¾ inches.</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">The car must have 1 ¾” clearance between the wheels.</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">The car must have 3/8” clearance underneath the body so it does not rub on the center guide rail.</li></ul>Wheels and Axles Rules<ul><li style="box-sizing:inherit">The provided wheels must be used. The wheels may not be cut, drilled, beveled or rounded. You may remove the seams and imperfections from the wheels.</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">The axles may be altered, polished and lubricated.</li></ul>Derby Car Weight Rules<ul><li style="box-sizing:inherit">The car shall not exceed 5.0 ounces.</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">The official race scale that is used at car check-in shall be considered final.</li></ul>Car Modifications Not Allowed<ul><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Wheel bearings, washers, springs and bushings are prohibited.</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Starting devices, finish line devices, propellants, or propulsion systems are prohibited.</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Wet paint or sticky surfaces will not race.</li></ul>Race Process Rules<ul><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Once a car passes inspection and is entered into the race, only race committee members can touch it.</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">If the car loses a wheel, or is otherwise damaged, the racer shall have 5 minutes to make repairs.</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Each car must pass inspection by the official inspection committee before it will be allowed to compete.</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">The Inspection Committee has the responsibility to disqualify those cars that do not meet these rules.</li></ul>If you have a question about rules, be sure to ask!
