The Nu Beta Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., in partnership with the Swim Strong Foundation will be hosting our annual Swim1922 Water Safety Awareness Event on May 10, 2025 at Far Rockaway High School.&nbsp;This program is being held to address: ● &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;The unfortunate truth that approximately ten people drown every day in the U.S.A, &nbsp; according to the CDC.●&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;An even more startling fact is that 70 percent of African American children and 60 percent of Hispanic children in the U.S. do not know how to swim.&nbsp;● &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Additionally, African American children are three times more likely to drown than Caucasian children.&nbsp; With USA Swimming, Sigma Gamma Rho has directly touched close to 20,000 lives nationwide, with the projection of changing multiple generations. Since 2007, Swim Strong has provided 10,000+ people with swim lessons and more than $1Million in free swim lessons to families so they can learn water safety and swimming skills. Through our partnership Swim Strong Foundation and Sigma Gamma Rho&rsquo;s Swim 1922 campaign will address this disparity by having a water safety clinic, surf &amp; stand-up paddle board exhibition, CPR training and certification as well as prizes, swim scholarships and lunch and snacks!
