Prior to setting out we will have a short safety chat and we will have a standard waiver of liability for you to sign (yawn, we know, but we have to). If you plan to stay for lunch at the caf&eacute;, note that we are attempting to help out the small cafe kitchen with pre-orders. Questions you might have: Do I need my own art supplies?No, Abby is making up kits for those without. Cost is $5.00, use the donation button and let us know via the questions. Will I have time to paint my sketch?By all means brings a few colours if you want - we will have about an hour with the flowers. Keep your load light tho. Bring a sketchpad or clipboard for a hard surface. Do I need a chair?No, but it might be nice to bring a folding stool or a towel or small blanket to sit on. Is the hike difficult?The hike will last about half an hour one way and as we will be looking at wildflowers on the way, we won&lsquo;t be racing. It is not a difficult hike though there is an incline. We can all pause for breath together but you should have a comfortable level of fitness for a short, moderate hike. What should I wear?It&rsquo;s cooler in the mornings up the mountain - so be prepared in layers as the day heats up. It is about 10 degrees cooler at Whitewater than in Nelson on average. Wear solid footwear. What if it rains?If we have light rain, we&rsquo;ll still go. If there is a risk of lightning on the exposed slope, we will cancel for safety. Will there be bears?Probably - but we may not see any. The group provides safety as we will be something to avoid. It is berry season so be prepared for the possibility of feeding bears in the area. We will have bear bangers and bear spray but if you would like to bring your own, please do. Just keep it in a safe container in your vehicle and especially in someone else&rsquo;s if car-pooling. On the hike we ask that bear spray be securely stowed to avoid accidental discharge. Are there washrooms and water available?The Caf&eacute; opens at 9:30 and will be open the rest of the time we are there, and there are washrooms on site. Bring a full water bottle, more water is available on site. Can I just order my lunch when I get to the Lodge before we go out on the hike Instead of calling ahead?Technically yes, but you are likely to hold up the rest of us from leaving on the hike, or you will miss the safety chat. The Lodge has asked us to pre-order where possible so we don&rsquo;t overwhelm their small kitchen with 20 orders all at once at noon.
