Beat the Heat | Accessible Spay & Neuter A better future starts before the next litter. Every year, cats across Saskatchewan give birth to kittens for whom there may be no safe home waiting. Some will end up abandoned, others will enter already overwhelmed rescues, and many will face hardships that could have been prevented. At SOS Prairie Rescue, we see the consequences of uncontrolled reproduction every day. We cannot rescue our way out of cat overpopulation. But we can work to prevent it. Prevention Should Be Within Reach For many families and communities, the cost of spaying or neutering a cat is a significant barrier. In rural and northern Saskatchewan, access to veterinary services can present additional challenges. Our Beat the Heat program helps address those barriers by supporting access to affordable spay and neuter services for cats in need. Working with veterinary clinics, caregivers, and communities, we aim to make sterilization more accessible, reduce unplanned litters, and prevent the cycle of overpopulation before it begins. Your Donation Supports Lasting ChangeEvery contribution helps strengthen our ability to provide accessible sterilization assistance.Your support helps us:

Fund spay and neuter procedures for eligible cats

Support caregivers facing financial barriers to veterinary care

Extend prevention efforts into underserved communities

Reduce future unwanted litters and pressure on rescue organizations

Build more sustainable, humane approaches to cat population management

Each completed sterilization is a meaningful step toward reducing future suffering. Help Us Change What Happens NextRescue will always be important. But lasting progress means addressing the circumstances that make rescue necessary. When you support Beat the Heat, you're investing in prevention, improving access to essential care, and helping create a Saskatchewan where fewer cats face abandonment, overpopulation, and unnecessary suffering. The most compassionate rescue is sometimes the one that never becomes necessary. Support Beat the Heat with a one-time donation or become a monthly supporter. Together, we can help make prevention possible.
